whether I don't do 'em right or what, but I tend to find the shortbready type ones a bit tasteless and am aiming for something that ds can make but that we will all want to eat, any suggestions?

can't give the recipe right now, but DD2 yesterday made really great biscuits at school yesterday, made from inspiration fro one of my cookery books.

they were 'traffic light' cookies.

she made them as rectangles, and cut round holes into half, then baked them.

once they were done, she sandwiched them together with jam, and in the top hole put a raspberry, middle hole was a yellow melon ball, bottom hole was green grape.

she got high marks too!

I made these biscuits with dd1.

Gingerbread men (or "gingerbread biscuits" if you don't have the right cutters)? I've made them with DS before (he can't do the boiling bit but the rest was fine).

3oz soft brown sugar
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1 tablespoon black treacle
1 tablespoon water
3 1/2 oz butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
8-10 oz plain flour

Put sugar, syrup, treacle, water, spices (if you are Delia you also include a pinch of ground cloves and the finely grated rind of half an orange) in a pan.

Bring to the boil stirring all the time.

Remove from heat and stir in butter (cut into lumps) and the bicarbonate of soda.

Next stir in flour until you have a managable (although sticky) dough.

Leave the dough covered in a cool place to become firm (about 45 mins). Preheat oven to gas 4 (180C).

Roll out dough on a lightly floured baord and cut out the gingerbread men.

Arrange on a greased baking sheet and cook for around 10 minutes or until they feel firmish when lightly pressed.

I got these from a kellogs packet, adn they are nicer than hobnobs!
crush 30g cereal (multigrain chapes or cheerios) and stir in 80g self raising flour and 40g oats.
Melt 80g marg and 50g brown sugar, stir into dry mix.
Make balls and flatten slightly on greased tray, bake 180 for 10 mins.

Oh these ones are yum:

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter/marg
1/2 cup oats - I use Jumbo
1/4 cup soda bicarb
1/4 cup flour
Granulated sugar

Oven at 350 deg/gas 4
Put everything except the gran sugar in a large bowl and then hands in a mix as long as you can - kids can do this bit.

Form into balls on baking sheet.

Get a flat bottomed glass, butter it, dip in the gran sugar and use it to flatten the biscuit balls. Bake for 10-12 mins.

You can add red food colouring and top with 1/2 glace cherries for red nose day (if you don't put the cherry on they look like salami!) I've also used green food colouring and we call them cabbage biscuits!

thanks all, am going to try them all, staring this afternoon with a combo of lizzimum biscuit recipe made into traffic light biscs with fruity polos!
