I go to the Turkish corner shop, where a nice Turkish person has made it all for me, in a wide range of flavours.

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 19:18

I came accross this recipe a while ago but I would like to use one that someone can vouch for. I did find some with gelatin in them too.

DarrellRivers · 24/11/2008 20:26

superbunny, here is the WFI recipe
www.waitrose.com/recipe/BTC?s_Turkish_Delight.aspx
I agree though, would prefer a tried and tested recipe

Thanks, Darrell. Don't supposed you've made any yet, have you?

DarrellRivers · 26/11/2008 18:23

No not yet, but today tracked down rose water so am ready to make, next few days I reckon.
I shall report back, wish me luck, usually making sweets I get glued to the saucepan

SuperBunny · 26/11/2008 19:02

lol, me too.

Please report back on the Turkish Delight. Good luck!

DarrellRivers · 30/11/2008 11:21

OK, sb, here's my review
It was quite straightforward, main thing I reckon is the stainless steel saucepan.I added a tiny ash of red food colouring to make it pink, she mentions something about beetroot juice in the recipe but I didn't have that in the house at the time
It is currently cooling in the hall, but DD and l licked the pot and it tasted and felt like turkish delight
Lovely rose flavour and pinky colour
I used leaf gelatine instead of powdered (it is pork rather than beef as we don't eat beef) and added that to the cooling sugary/lemon juice/water mix at similar time as the rose water, after the caster sugar/lemon juice/water had boiled for 20mins.
And I didn't add pistachios as not keen on them in turkish delight
Will eat some tomorrow and report back, but has been the most succesful sweet I have made so far

givingitawayaspressies eating it

OP posts:
NCbirdy · 30/11/2008 12:30

I was thinking of it for pressies but I am sure that we would end up eating it too

How much does that recipie make? I mean is it a box full that you would get in a shop, more, less? I am trying to judge how much to make so that we at leaset have some left over to give away

DarrellRivers · 30/11/2008 12:35

Is still cooling but has made one square tin
I think I will make double quantities next time
