It's a 9 day menu the format is Breakfast/lunch & afters/tea

Cereal is sometimes toast/bagels/teacakes & snack of dried/fresh fruit arrives midmorning

Cereal & fruit Beans on toast, cucumber/carrot/tomato Rice Pudding & peaches Fish Pie with leeks & broccoli
Cereal & fruit Pasta with cheese & tomato salsa Chocolate pudding Toad in the Hole, with carrots & broccoli
Cereal & fruit Chicken Nuggets, cucumber/carrot/tomato Fruit charlotte Mince, mash, with carrots & peas
Cereal & fruit Pizza Toast, cucumber/carrot/tomato Profiteroles Poached salmon with carrots & green beans
Cereal & fruit Fish Fingers, broccoli & cauliflower Fruit Flan Cold meat, chips & beans
Cereal & fruit Rice & peas, sweetcorn & raisins Fruit and ice cream Baked potato & cheese, cucumber/carrot/tomato
Cereal & fruit Scrambled Eggs & Toast Trifle Cowboy casserole
Cereal & fruit Cheese & Potato Pie with beans Ice cream, gingernuts & banana Rice, fish with peas & sweetcorn
Cereal & fruit Scampi, cucumber/carrot/tomato Fruit and Custard Pasta with cheese, ham, broccoli & sweetcorn

I worry there is not enough/too much of veggie/carbs/fish etc or that the meals aren't very balanced

What do you think?

I wouldn't worry too much. The main gov advice is to eat a wide variety of foods and to enjoy what you eat. Which is the same ofr kids obv.

Get them in good eating habits now (ie lots of different stuff) and you can't go wrong. Make sure you don't over compensate by giving them too much F&V and not enough fat / protein etc as they won't be getting enough Kcals to get them through the day. I think your meal planner was good, maybe try and substitute meat for quorn mince if making spag bol or cott pie etc, get all the protein and not so much sat fat. Etc etc.

I'm doing nutrition btw, not an interfering old trout! Let me know if you want any more advice, I'm only in my first year and eager to practice!

Having a varied diet is very important and I think you are doing very well on this score.

5 portions of fruit or veg per day is good and is more than most of us manage - more than 5 portions is even better. And lots of differnt colours is better than all one colour fruit/veg.

Breakfast is a very important meal and it is good to have both slow release carbs (whole grains) and protein at this meal.

Kids need more fats than adults do and low fat dairy is probably better for adults than for the kids.

I think you are doing much better than the average Joe with this menu plan

Sorry, chaps this is work for me.....

I must be better than an 'average joe' nearly 3 yrs ago I was awarded 'outstanding' by OFSTED & I need to provide my children with a good & varied menu it's only a small part of what I do, but imo a very important part (I'm a bit anal about food tbh)

But tbh I find accurate advice very hard to find - the problem is that the adult %ages are not transferrable to under 5's
The adult figures are
F&V 33%
Bread & Cereals 33%
Dairy & Milk 15%
Meat, fish & alt 12%
Fats & sugar 7%

BTW the children also have a snack which could be dried or fresh fruit, crackers & cream cheese, prawn crackers & salsa

But it is hard

I use carrot, tomato & cucumber too often but the children eat it voluntarily - lettuce, celery, sugarsnap peas etc they won't touch

OsmosisBOOnana could you help and pass it off as a piece of coursework?
