Sulphites are bad, yes? But why? What are sulphites? Are they Really Bad, or just not ideal. If it's what makes dried apricot orange I expect it's in dried mango too. I didn;t think about this until after ds had had some.

If you buy organic dried apricots they do not have the sulphar in.

The organic dried fruit range in Holland and Barrat don't list sulphur as an ingredient.

egg yolks have sulphur in, it can't be that bad?! not sure about sulphites.

It is a form of preservative to keep the colour in the fruit (yes, orange dried mango will have it). If I recall correctly, there is a link between ingesting sulphites and likelihood of getting asthma

Sainsbury now do organic dried mango- this doesn't have sulphates in.
Its sulphates I think, not sulphites which are used in wine production.

Sulphites can be present in dried fruit but not listed, as they are naturally occurring. They do not cause asthma, but if you have a sulphite allergy and you are asthmatic you are at some risk.
