Any ideas for ways I can spice up a shop-bought quiche?

That's all really.
I have a friend coming over with new girlfriend who's a veggy and we've promised him a roast (he lives alone) - which will all be beautifully home made but don't have time to do any blind baking so have a bought a quichey/tart thing. It's butternut sqaush and cherry tom with a "creamy cheese" sauce.
I was going to put some fresh cherry toms on it.
Any other ideas?
TIA

Just leave it but do some nice salads with it.

Home made coleslaw
Green beans and tomatoes
Beetroot walnuts and fetta
Plain green slad
Or...
Cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, onions and celery diced finely and dressed with cumin and lemon juice.

Nice bread, some pickles and chutney, glass of wine and Bob's yer uncle.

I concur with Moondog.
Hey Moondog, I have two pheasant breasts in the fridge and am stuck for ideas, I have only ever roasted whole birds before. Any ideas?

moondog · 15/11/2008 17:12

I don't really think a pheasant breast would be that good would it?

I would cook and shred into a sort of wintery salad probably.

Maybe endive, walnuts and pomegranate seads.

Or perhaps Waldorf style with celery, apple and walnuts, bound by good mayonnaise.

Oh yes I was thinking a salady thing, thanks .
I might either bash them really thin and flash fry or braise them slowly with some kind of syrupy sauce, actually I have some membrillo in the fridge, I might do a glaze with that.

moondog · 15/11/2008 17:22

Oh yes, the membrillo would work.
Good with some steamed greens anbd potatoes done in goose fat with a good glass of red.

Carmenere · 15/11/2008 17:30

Oh yes I have some great Nero D'Avolo which would be super, it is such a pity that dp doesn't really appreciate the fab dinner he is going to have. I mean he will like it but he would also like a takeaway iyswim.

Mercy · 15/11/2008 17:36

What's membrillo please?

Carmenere · 15/11/2008 18:04

It is spanish quince paste Mercy, It is lovely with cheese.

Mercy · 15/11/2008 18:16

I think I've come across it actually (didn't know it's name) If it's the same thing it is delicious with cheese

Is it a marmalade type colour?

moondog · 15/11/2008 18:23

Yes.
Reminds me that I have some hiding in the back cupboard.

ilovemydogandPresidentObama · 15/11/2008 18:26

agree with moondog re: salads

green beans with toasted cumin seeds
cannelini beans with red onion loads of fresh herbs - parsley, corriander
spinach leaves with crumbled blue cheese
fennel and orange

moondog · 15/11/2008 19:53

They sound great i love.
Hey Carm, in today's Guardian. Hugh Fotheringale-Wotist has some nice recipes for salads with winter veg and pheasant.

Carmenere · 15/11/2008 20:01

really? Oh we am so 'au current' . I have them slow-cooking in a liquor of cider vinegar with chicken stock, membrillo and pink peppercorns. I am going to cook them for a further 40 mins and let the sauce reduce to a sticky glaze and then slice it over a salad of frizee and radiccio with pink grapefruit, red onion and black olives.

moondog · 15/11/2008 20:06

Sounds great.
I think the olives may be a step too far though?

Carmenere · 15/11/2008 20:10

Um maybe, I thought the salad needed something salty but perhaps less is more.

moondog · 15/11/2008 20:14

Capers poss?

Carmenere · 15/11/2008 20:25

I had toyed with the idea of frying some slices of chorizo but that was before i had segmented the grapefruit, it would be too much and too fattening, I would eat them all before dp came home . I think I will dig out the capers, they should do the trick. Cheers.

moondog · 15/11/2008 20:26

Oh God yes! Show me a person who cannot resist snaffling slices of chorizo while chopping and I will eat my hat.
