What can i do with 10 squillion tins of tuna?

Ok, 10 squillion may be a slight exaggeration. But I succumbed to special offer madness and bought far more than we really need/can use in our lifetime. Bored of it in sandwiches, wraps and jacket pots.

Not a huge fan of tuna pasta bake but willing to be converted if anyone has a recipe which doesnt involve a tin of soup!

Anyone got any ideas for using up tins of tuna in main meals?

thanks

Tuna pasta salad? Served cold? Cooked penne run under cold tap to cool it. toss in tuna, chopped tomoatoes, chopped peppers, little bit of very finely chopped onion, sweetcorn (if it's lying around), cucumber if you feel like it. Make up a dressing of mayo watered down with a little milk, a dash of vinegar or lemon juice, salt and pepper. Quite tasty, and good for packed lunches.

Fishcakes? Mixed with potatoes, covered in breadcrumbs/beaten egg, and fried?

It goes really well with avo with a bit of mayo as well - more a lunch time snack than a main meal, but tasty.

pasta, cooked brocolli, walnuts and tuna all mixed with mayo then add a drizzle of honey mustard dressing.

It keeps forever you know- just use it to ride out the credit crunch

notamumyetbutoneday · 14/11/2008 15:33

He he I know Eachpeach- I think my addled brain beleived that with enough tins of tuna to feed an army, we would sail through the credit crunch! Alas the wheels came off the plan last week when DH asked if we had anyhting else for his sandwiches "apart from tuna"...

Might have to try and tempt him with tuna pasta salad thank you ladies- "Its tuna, darling, but not as we know it!"

Any other ideas for hot meals?

There is a lovely recipe for tuna pasta in Annabel Karmel... it is very tasty- we all eat it.

Become Mad Cat Lady and feed all the strays for miles around.

I use it instead of salmon in fish pie when I'm feeling tight

LoveMyGirls · 14/11/2008 21:34

I have it with mayo on crackerbread with cucumber.

other than that and with pasta erm nope nothing is springing to mind.......

not hot, but very popular in our house - tuna salad with beans and onions.

mix tuna flakes with either green beans or tinned butter beans, onion (I soak it in hot water first to sweeten it) and dress with lemon, olive oil, black pepper, balsamic. And rub garlic round bowl first. Good with salad and jacket potatoes.

and second fishcakes, especially if you do it with another fish as well (cooked mackerel, tinned salmon), a bit of potato, parsley/coriander, spring onions, lemon/lime zest - serve with sweet chilli sauce.

Afraid I can't suggest anything, because tuna REMINDS me of cat food. Bleuuurgh

NorbertDentressangle · 14/11/2008 21:36

Are you my DP?

His Mums food hoarding tendancies are manifesting themselves in his compulsion to buy multi-packs of tuna every time he goes shopping

Shitemum · 14/11/2008 21:38

Notamum - if your brain is addled it could be that you already eat too much tuna - there's a lot of mercury in it you know...
