Thinking of getting a slow cooker....

Looking for ways to make life easier! Are slow cookers a good way of saving time etc?

Also was thinking I would put food on in morning about 8.30 and would probably not eat until about 7.30 - is that too long to leave it cooking - will it be mush by then.

Anyone recommend a good one. They seem quite reasonably priced.

Yes, they are.

If you are out for that long, use the low option and now, food does not turn to mush.

We have a Morphy Richards one for about £15 or £20 and it is excellent. Can put main dish into dishwasher which is a bonus. Glass lid lets you check food without raising lid and losing heat.

I find it great because I have a meal for the toddler ready and we can eat later if needed.

We probably use it about twice a week because but that'just us. There were a few threads around recently with recipes if you want to check out some old threads.

They are great. Used to make casseroles for us and then puree the rest for DS.
Can put things in straight from frozen too.

I have done a curry today, did all the main bit in the pan and then transferred.

I also do lots of stews etc in it - I love it through the winter

Madhouse - saw your curry on the other slowcooker thread. I can't get curries to taste of very much in the slow cooker. How do make it tasty?
