what would you want to eat?

Obviously meat is out of the question apart from a large-ish chicken to stretch as far as poss.

Other than that I was thinking

pasta bakes
potato bakes
omelettes
jacket spuds
a veggie curry
some soups

& after that I'm stuck.

We usually manage to eat meat every night on a budget of £50 a fortnight but rent has gone up, meaning shopping budget has gone down so any other cheap/easy/tasty ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

our local shop does bags of potatoes (must be many many kgs as takes a man to lift it. but they are usually very cheap this way.

Which supermarket do you shop in ?

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 15/11/2008 08:59

oh and also the markets are good as well for fruit/veg - with that tbh i'd try to do £6/£7 on fruit/veg, same on meat (but would try to alternate it ie one week pack of chops and mince next time big pack of sausages iycwim.

rest on tins etc etc.

oh and lidl's had (not sure if still do as this was last week) have 2 2L milk for £2.

do your whole shop with bogofs.

if you are near a couple of supermarkets you can find whatever you want on offer in one of them, but get twice as much. Therefore 2 weeks shopping for the price of one?

I did a very cheap casserole the other day which was really nice. I think I got the basic recipe off here actually.
1 tin of mixed beans, 1 tin of chopped tomatoes, any veg you have hanging around, 3/4 pint of stock. I added some herbs, bit of paprika and some fried streaky bacon at the end. Is fab with rice/cous cous/baked spuds etc.

£30 for two weeks is really hard, I usually spend £30 a week on food for two of us.

The best way to get a lot of food on a small budget is Aldi!

I can have meat for my meals everyday on £30, I also rely on food banks to help with food like pasta, rice, noodles, milk etc.

For example, I will buy an extra large chicken and do a roast dinner or fajitas with half the chicken on the first day and the next day I will use the rest for curry or stir fry.

A large pack of chicken drumsticks give us 9-10 drumsticks for £1.89, I will make 2-3 days worth of meals out of this. I will marinate the chicken or batter and fry the chicken and do it with rice usually or mixed veg.

I will get a packet of mackerel fillets for £1.89, I usually get 3-4 fillets which will feed us for two days, and do this with rice and veg too.

I will pick up the boil in a bag rice, which I get 4 packs of rice for 45p or get the savoury, flavoured packet rice for 25p each.

Pizzas are great and cheap, I get a basic pepperoni for 67p and a luxury, large, BBQ chicken for £1.69

I also do jacket potatoes with beans and cheese or tuna and salad cream, I only pay for potatoes as I get tuna and beans from the foodbank

Have a look at these meal plans based on shopping at Aldi : savvybites.co.uk/category/meal-plans/

If you have some store cupboard staples they should work out cheap
