DH is very excited about the baking side of things (that I will be making) so any recommendations for good books would be great.

I have to start proving it was a good buy pretty quickly.

Leith's baking bible is very comprehensive - a good and cheap buy is the Australian Woman's Weekly baking book. Nigella's Domestic Goddess is actually very good. Will think of more - they're all downstairs...

What colour is it?

More than Anna!

Anna8888 · 12/11/2008 12:57

I was looking at them yesterday afternoon - a lovely pale pink one or the charcoal one

Habbibu · 12/11/2008 13:04

Oh, it's all about the style with you KitchenAid people, isn't it? Bah.

littlestrawberry · 12/11/2008 13:09

Congratulations on the new addition to your family

I like Leiths Baking Bible, Mary Berrys ultimate Cake Book, Nigella's How to be a Domestic Goddess and I have Cookies Galore and Muffins Galore which are also good.

The Delia collection Baking book has some nice recipes in but haven't got around to baking any yet.

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2008 13:09

I'd maybe try this one
I don't have it but I love Dan Lepard's weekly recipe column in the Saturday Guardian and this book is on my christmas list. His recipes always look gorgeous and the ones I've tried have turned out well.

CatIsSleepy · 12/11/2008 13:10

for bread, his Baking with Passion book also looks v. good...

changer22 · 12/11/2008 13:12

It's dark grey - that colour was £100 off (plus a further tenner off in their Christmas magazine) from Steamer Trading. Cheaper than anywhere else - £249.

I'd always fancied red or the yellow but grey is classy and makes it look more like equipment that a kitchen top bit of art . Plus my Aga has to be red... (in my dreams).

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm getting all excited.

I want a red one so much it hurts. And the red ones are always to most expensive!

seeker · 12/11/2008 13:12

But I do have an Aga!

changer22 · 12/11/2008 13:15

Seeker - this is mine and DH's presents to each other plus (we hope) our present from the in-laws too.

After 18 long years we've given up on surprises!

I have a red one

Whipped up my Xmas cake in it this morning.

I [heart] my KitchenAid...

MumToJaydenAndArmani · 12/11/2008 13:20

I'm torn. I love the aesthetics of Kitchenaid's design but I am very anti gadget. You actually can't beat a bowl and a wooden spoon. I have a set of blue and buttermilk striped Cornish Ware bowls and a collection of very well-loved and well-worn collection of wooden spoons. I'm the same about breadmakers.

I have a cream 4 oven mains gas Aga.

Habbibu · 12/11/2008 13:28

Oh, yes, I like Dan Lepard's column too - may drop hints for the book.

AbbaFan · 12/11/2008 13:35

I have the Classic and just lurve it. I use mine all the time.

I would 2nd Nigella's domestic goddess, it is the ulitimate baking book.

hazeyjane · 12/11/2008 13:38

I've got a red one, which my 2 of my lovely, lovely friends bought for us when dh and I got married.

I use it all the time for cakes and pastry, because it is so unfaffy, and it is great when making bread (no kneading - bliss)

My favourits baking book is Nigella's Domestic Goddess, but could do with some inspiration too!

seeker · 12/11/2008 13:39

I have a black two oven Eastwood Aga-type oil fired range. And two lovely brown with cream insides mixing bowls that were my mother's and which I learned to bake with when I was a child. And a collection of wooden spoons. But I still want a red Kitchenaid!

AbbaFan · 12/11/2008 13:40

Does anyone know if you can make pastry in the Kitchenaid?

elsiepiddock · 12/11/2008 13:40

I have a red one too, it is my favourite thing in the kitchen.

Also love Nigella and a bit of Delia.

Need to use mine more often - 70% of the time I just admire it and shine it!

Habbibu · 12/11/2008 13:42

AbbaFan - you can make it in the Kenwood (with the K-beater - don't know what the KA equiv is) - you have to be careful not to overmix, that's all.

Habbibu · 12/11/2008 13:44

Ooh - just remembered - in Tesco last week they had a deal where you bought 3 bars of Green & Black's chocolate and got the cookbook free. I already have it, so was a bit gutted. that's very good for chocolate cakes, etc.

Habbibu · 12/11/2008 13:44

Deborah Gray's complete book of baking is quite good too. Apple cake in particular is lovely.
