fussy - and getting fussier...

My happy, healthy 10 month old DD has never been a big fan of food, although from 6 months she was eating three small meals a day of varied homemade purees. Then a few weeks ago she began to refuse anything by spoon, apart from yogurt, cereal and fruit puree, and will only eat finger food. Which would be great, but the list of foods she deems acceptable is woefully short - cheese, broccoli, cucumber, peas, eggy bread (occasionally), toast, Cheerios and fish fingers with the crumbs picked off - and she will only have a few bites at the most then often start screaming. I've began to dread mealtimes and am getting worried that she isn't getting enough food or a balanced diet, although she doesn't look like she's losing a lot of weight. I try her with different food every day but these are the only ones she eats - everything else is carefully picked out and thrown on the floor. I was BF until a week ago and she is now having 3 x 7oz bottles of formula a day. Has anyone else been through a similar experience? Any suggestions and help gratefully received x

I really really wouldn't worry too much, especially as you say she's not losing weight. As much as your patience will allow, try to keep giving her extra stuff which may be rejected (I know it's extremely annoying!) but also give her her "favourites" as they're not exactly dreadful.

My lo went through a picky stage, and didn't lose weight but did stop putting it on so quickly (and started to look quite skinny too) between 8m - 1yr and is now a pretty chubby 18m old who eats pretty much everything - a lot less picky than her older sister!

If she was vomiting or really eating nothing or having her sleep disturbed through it I'd mention it to a HV/GP. Otherwise I wouldn't stress it

Thanks for the reassurance. I'll persist with offering her other stuff, but I think I'll stop making complicated Annabel Karmel recipes for now as it makes it all the more painful when my lovingly prepared chicken and apple balls end up being fed to the dog!

Absolutely! And she is 10 months now, so not too far off eating just what everyone else eats anyway. Both of mine really preferred it to my baby culinary efforts - there's no award for virtue with being a Mum, I find
