I love the look of these but never having used one, I'm wondering if I can continue living without it or whether I should treat myself this Christmas.

There's also £100 off one locally so I am tempted

I have one, I love it to bits.

I use it for cakes, bakes and bread. Because I make all our own bread it gets used about 4-5 times a week.

And it looks so good on the worktop. I have a black one, its gorgeous. Couldn't live without mine, but then I am a bit of a gadget girl.

CountessDracula · 10/11/2008 12:02

Go for it
I have a new kenwood chef, it is fantastic. Makes fab bread etc. Alos has food processor and lots of other bits t

Scootergrrrl · 10/11/2008 12:03

Yes, EVERYBODY should have one. They're so lovely.

I have a yellow one and I use it for cakes, bread, including nan and pizza bases, mayonnaise, pastry, mashed potatoes... in fact almost anything. And home-amde stuff is so much nicer and healthier than shop bought cakes or whatever, that it's a real investment.

changer22 · 10/11/2008 12:06

Ooh, am seriously tempted now. I would like to make our own bread. I got so sick of the bread machine taste.

I like the sound of the yellow, but the money off is the grey one...

actually I must say i find it a faff for cakes

Easier to make by hand tbh unless a v big one

Buda · 10/11/2008 12:09

Don't know if you need one but I want one!

Amazon did have the white one quite cheap at one point.

I have seen a red one here but it is really expensive. Am waiting till we move back to UK and will then treat myself.

Scootergrrrl · 10/11/2008 12:09

The white one is cheap at Amazon atm, but the grey one sounds nice too

NorkyButNice · 10/11/2008 12:10

God yes - I love my KitchenAid. Brilliant for cakes - everything goes in the dishwasher so it's really not a big faff to clean up afterwards.

Mercy · 10/11/2008 12:12

What's the bread machine taste?

changer22 · 10/11/2008 12:16

When the bread (from the bread machine) tastes the same whether it is granary, soda, white, etc. Cooked with fresh yeast or dried it always seemed to have a similar taste.

It didn't help that we got a bread machine at the same time as DD2 arrived so my tastebud memory is tied up with feeling knackered and the noise of the mixing...

I don't like breadmaker bread
Kenwood chef bread is gorgeous though

pagwatch · 10/11/2008 12:20

I have it in the vanilla-ish colour. It is beautiful and i love it. It is four years old and looks brand new still.
I am so pleased I bought it- never regretted the money

murphyslaw · 10/11/2008 15:09

I have a cream one - had it for 4 years. Great for cakes, dough and egg whites!

Wouldnt be without it.

Miyazaki · 10/11/2008 15:14

Is there a big difference between a kenwood chef or a kitchenaid?

chocolatedot · 10/11/2008 15:15

Not sure why its a faff for cakes CD? I use it for absolutely everything, including rubbing butter into flour for scones etc. (with the flat paddle). Its brilliant for bread and fantastic for meringues and it basically makes the cake for you.

curlywurlycremeegg · 10/11/2008 15:19

I love mine, have an ice blue one, bought it with some money left to me by my grandma, it's a lovely way to remember her everytime I bake

Piccalilli2 · 10/11/2008 15:25

My dh got me a charcoal grey one for Christmas last year, at first I was like 'oh, er, thanks' but now I lurrrrve it. I bake so much more than I used to, cakes, bread, healthy muffins for the kids, pancakes for brekkie on the weekend. And it makes my rather scuzzy kitchen look almost glam.

essential part of kitchen kit, and it does look good too (i have the cream one) i'm considering selling my kitchenaid blender (in grey) if anyone is interested, i got it for pureeing ds1 baby food, not realising i actually needed a hand blender and spent ages scrapping minute puree off the inside. now that we have a lovely braun hand blender its just never used (good for crushing ice/smoothies/soup i think)

CountessDracula · 10/11/2008 16:15

well i find it a faff because you have to take the bottom thingy off to sieve the flour in (or use another thing to sieve the flour in thus creating more washing up)

I find it quicker to do it all by hand really

ZacharyQuack · 11/11/2008 22:02

I have a navy blue Kitchenaid and I love it. It's helps reduce the faff of baking, because you can get it going with the first lot of ingredients (e.g. sugar and butter) while you get the next things ready. I haven't made bread in it for ages, this thread has inspired me to get baking!

fishie · 11/11/2008 22:07

i've got an ancient bowl-lift catering one. it is brilliant for bread but not so good for one egg white. not half as pretty as the flip tops either, big lump. but i do love it and use it all the time.

BirdyArms · 11/11/2008 22:29

I have one and use it a fair bit plus I do think it;s a nice thing to have around. It is easy to wash up - something which puts me off using my food processor.

Tinkjon · 12/11/2008 06:29

Mine is red - I love it as much as my other babies

curlywurlycremeegg (nice name!), I did the same, bought mine with money from my nan.

It's great that you can put the stuff in and leave it running whilst you go and do something else - no standing there, holding it or anything.

jenk1 · 12/11/2008 17:38

I want one. are there any good deals on at the moment so i can show DH?
