Help required...I've cremated my Christmas cake!

The cake is rather burnt on all sides, I've sliced at it with an electric knife to see how bad it is inside so now it is quite mis-shapen!
It also looks very dry.
Does any one have any suggestions as to what I can do with it, is there anything else I can turn it into? (if you know what I mean)It's just that the ingredients have cost so much I can't bring myself just to feed it to the birds.

If you cut off the burnt edges - is the inside OK apart from being too dry? If so, this can be easily solved by turing it upside down, sicking holes in the bottom and watering with sherry and brandy a couple of times a week until Christmas (leaving covered with foil between feeds). Yumm.

oh dear

Im about to bake my 1st ever Xmas cake today....

did you wrap the tin in brown paper up the sides and put some parchement on the top with a 50p size whole in

im now all worried about burning my (1st ever) fruit cake

what temp did you use?

also worried as instructions say do not even look for 4 hours, what if i look and it burnt?

I agree feeding with brandy should help to moisten it

I think it's to far gone to be "fed!"

I am thinking more of slicing it up and using it to make some kind of desert/trifle type of thing, but not sure what.

It was a recipe I have used twice before with excellent results.
I believe my oven is over heating (more expense at the worst time of the year, starting to panick how I will cook a turkey in a dodgy oven!" as I have made another one and it was ready in just 2 hours and not the usual 4, and I had the heat down to 110 for the 2nd hour, it is a fan oven.

Mush up the good bits and add at a late stage of mixing to very good home amde ice cream; fab Christmas pud alternative.
