have they gone out of fashion now.
Very hard to find. Much prefer to add our own toppings, the only ones i can find are tesco value pizza bases, and that is not in all shops

We use value bases or make I make my own. In Tesco's there's usually Napolini??? ones in the pasta aisle.

you can get a "kit" from tesco or sainsbury - in the home baking/ flour bit usually. very easy to use - add water, mix, kneed then roll out to the shapes you want and v. yummy!

home baking? i didnt think of that, i spose you need to buy a special pizza baking tray? round one at least?

I make my own and just use a standard baking tray. They are square pizzas but none the worse for that!

PS - Annabel Karmels hidden veg tomato sauce makes a lovely topping.

I very rarely use pizza bases/dough.
We prefer them made on french sticks halved lengthways.

The Asda pizza bar will sell you plain bases - at least they used to. We used to get these till I had a crack at home baking!

SlartyBartFast · 05/11/2008 10:11

french sticks as an alternative? good idea, and i spose pitta bread too?

French stick best imo.

Asda / Tesco / Somerfield all do pizza base mix in baking part near flour etc - SOOOO easy and delicious

bobsyouruncle · 05/11/2008 10:48

muffins (obviously the savoury kind not the sweet ones!) cut in half make great pizza bases. I use a blob of ketchup for the tomato sauce. Good size for young children too.

Naan bread makes a v nice pizza base.

midnightexpress · 05/11/2008 21:55

We always make our own (square too like wasabipeanut) and the DSs much prefer them to shop bought. We use the Jamie Oliver recipe (which is basically the same as a standard white loaf recipe - he adds semolina in place of part of the flour, but I don't usually bother.V v easy, especially if you have a mixer with a dough hook.

We make frying pan pizzas at cub scouts with flat bread/tortilla breads. Smother one half with Dolmio, cheese, ham etc, fold the blank half over and if you get it right the cheese seals the edges making a pizza pasty. Cook in frying pan on both sides. You can use pesto and posh stuff like olives but Cubs dont normally do 'posh'.
