I want to get a slow cooker for my mother, but I've never used one myself and have no idea what to look for.

Has anyone got any tips?

What about this one, is Morphy Richards a 'trustable' brand?

The stainless steel looks better, but she's a bit of a slattern so it would probably be revolting in no time

Is it me or is it quiet on here today?

I have got the morphy richards one but in stainless steel and it works brilliantly.

Thank you! Oh the shame of a three-times-bumped-but-unanswered thread!

I think I'll go for that then. I couldn't see anything about it having a timer, does it matter if it doesn't

No dont think you really need a timer - the whole point is that the food gets nuked for hours and you eat it when your ready.

Tastes lush!!!!

[hijack alert]

what is the main reason for getting one of these? Does it save lots of energy? I do lots of stock, soups, casseroles etc so should I ask santa for one?

tooscaredtoask · 04/11/2008 16:12

Uses one fifth of energy of oven. Perfect for soups, casseroles etc.

Bung it on in the morning and let it go all day.

A real life saver for me on days where kids are at clubs after school and I can walk in to the house smelling gorgeous! Just cook a bit of rice or pasta and dinner is done.

Also meat is really tender so you can use the cheaper cuts. - Ask Santa

I have the morphy richards one too - the stainless steel one, and it is a lifesaver! The timer isn't an issue as it cooks so slowly, you are unlikely to burn it or overdo it. Agree with tooscared - it is so nice to come home to a wholesome meal already cooked and hot instaed of having to faff around when kids are hungry. Can be used to slow roast cheaper cuts of lamb to perfection - put a shoulder of lamb in it in the morning the other weekend and it was beautiful by the evening. Def one to put on your santa list.

thanks!

Have asked santa (aka amazon)

Hi,

I got mine from recyclers on my local Freecycle website.

I use mine for stews, soups and casseroles! And its brilliant when I have lots of people round

Regards
Stephanie
