Layer of chocolate in cheesecake- would this work?

Hi

I have a recipe for an orange cheesecake which I would like to somehow adapt to make chocolate orange cheesecake.

Do you think it would a) work or b) go horribly wrong if i melted chocolate and spread it in a layer on the biscuit base, before adding the orange cheesecake topping.

If so, would i wait for the chooclate to harden before adding the orange topping? Would it go too hard?

Any other suggestions for making it chocolate orange welcome as i am lacking inspiration!

it would work and I'm sure I've seen similar, and yes you would need to wait for the chocolate to set before adding the topping.

Also you can drizzle chocolate over hte top - but only if you are doing it within an hour of serving or it can go funny (looks wise, will still taste fine).

Yes it would work (i have done it). or drizzle chocolate over the top. Could you not just put chocolate in the cheesecake mix (melted).

Oh i love making cheese cake

ooh replies already! Pleased you dont both think its a mad idea. I have drizzld chocolate over in the past but ill be making it friday night/saturday morn for a party on sat night so last minute drizzling wont be possible.

Marne I have two questions: when you did the layer of chocolate, did you just use melted chocolate or did you add anyhting (eg cream) to the melted choc?

also, i like thr idea of adding chocolate to the cheesecake mix but not sure how i would do this? presume i would melt choc first? would it mix ok with the cream cheese and orange juice and zest, etc?

sorry so many questions!

It depents if you want a crisp layer of choc, i just use choc on its own as long as its only a thin layer, if its too thick it will be hard to cut.

If putting choc in the mix-
Whip the cream until thick but not stiff, add the cream cheese, condenced milk, orange juice and zest, whilst mixing it all together tip in the melted choc (whilt mixing with electric whisk).

The secret is not to have the cream to stiff when you start adding the other bits as it will get stiffer when the choc sets into the mix. Make sure you add the choc whilst mixing as it will set when it hits the cold mix.

Thanks marne- sorry for repeated questions but its my dads 60th party with 40 guests and I am making 3 of the desserts- no pressure then!

If i add the choc to the cheesecake mix, will it give like a marbly effect? or will it just have bits of choc in? also, how much melted chcoloate in the mix please (roughly) for a cheesecake to serve 8 people?

thanks!

It should give you a marble effect depending on how much you mix it. If you dont mix fast enough you will bits of chocolate (still tastes good).

I would use 80g-100g of dark choc. If its for adults you could add Grand Marnier/orange Liqueur instead of juice and zest.

I make baileys and choc cheese cake [yum].

Once the cheesecake is all assembled, pour the melted chocolate slowly over in a side to side motion and then swirl it in circles with a skewer. (Don't over do the swirling). You get a really fantastic marbled effect that looks stunning, but is so easy to do.
