Has anyone been in a restaurant/cafe that has refused to heat up your baby's food in the microwave due to "health and safety law"?

Hi,

I was in La Tasca in Canary Wharf today, and they refused to heat up my DD's baby food, that was homemade and in a tupperware. They said it was because of Health and Safety law. I asked them which law as that seemed a bit stupid to me. How can heating up some food in a sealed container in the microwave pose a risk to anyone?

I've been to lots of places that are more than happy to heat up the food for you if you are eating there. Needless to say, we went somewhere else, to The Fine Line for lunch where they were absolutely lovely and helpful and heated up the food for us np.

Has anyone else come across this? Does anyone know if there is an actual health and safety law that says "don't heat up baby food that your customers bring in"?It just seems completely stupid and jobsworth to me.

Thanks ChloeandAlfie, that's exactly what I need. Didn't know they sold them, as I thought a normal thermos for liquid wouldn't do the job. I mean, it would be quite difficult to gets a shepards pie into a narrow thermos flasks for liquid, and then try to get it out again. But this sounds perfect.

S ays it;s not suitable for baby food or milk. I'm guessing because it is kept warm for several hours, it would be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Mmm yes it is. Slightly worrying that it says that on the website, but in the shop and on the label it says nothing of the kind.....

I've never had an issue with it (tho son is 22 months so might not be as sensitive). I've never used it for longer than 4 hours....

There is a Fisher Price one:

That heats up food in a container so it stays chilled until you need to heat it. Not good if you want to blitz the food to kill the bacteria...

I'll still use mine as I've had no issue, tho I'll make sure I absolutely blitz it before I put it in the flask.

Sounded like a fab idea at first! :-)

Not sure I'd want to take the risk though, even if it's a small one.
