Jamie Oliver Stew question

Ladies

I'm making the beef and Ale stew from the new Jamie book tonight and it says to put it in the oven for 3 hours at 200/gas mark 6. That seems a bit high for a slow cooked stew, what do you think? Should I turn I down to gas mark 4?

I'd turn it down.

I think stews really are best cooked for as long as poss as low as possible.

thanks girls

watsthestory - do you make the Jamie one? I'm glad it is nice, I'm hoping my DS's won't turn up their noses. I've a fan oven too, so I'll turn it down a bit. What ale do you use - I've never bought it before!

I've just got some Newcastle brown Ale, so I hope that is ok. I'm gonna try the lasagne tomorrow. We've had the crispy posh chicken (very yum) and the mince and onion pie (also good). I've been impressed with how everything has turned out so far!

Oh it's really lovely and quite therapeutic bashing the chicken!!!

Try the Dark and Sticky Stew too - my dcs love that!

The chicken is very good, DH loved it too. I've heard the lasagne is good, I bet the creme fraiche is nice in it instead of cheese sauce - a bit lighter.

Has anyone tried the chocolate fudge bake yet - might do that at the weekend!!

First cookbook I've had that is actually useful.
