I need a birthday 'cake' recipe that can be eaten by someone on a puree diet ... this is not a bonkers weaning request!

My wonderful, amazing granny is celebrating her 94th birthday next week.

She has advanced aesophogal cancer, & is on a pureed diet (although hardly eating at the moment ) which is hard for her, as a long term foodie.

I want to make her something that feels like a birthday cake, but has a soft texture ... I was wondering about a creme brulee/chocolate mousse type thing. Any other ideas??

You can make a lovely big creme caramel that you can put candles in.

Trifle? - go to town on the decorations and she can leave those if not suitable.

Obviously with a trifle she can eat whichever of the layers she fancies. Would she be allowed a tiny bit of sherry in it?

Would something souffle like be light enough to dissolve in her mouth?

funnypeculiar · 18/10/2008 21:11

Ice cream cake is a fab idea

And yes, she is certainly allowed sherry ... she checked with the consultant that she was allowed booze before they sent her home

well, I wouldn't have thought of blancmange (in fact, it's taken me three tries to spell it )
Sorry to hear about your dh's granddad, Romy7.

Yes, she was quite pleased about the sherry too (well, more pleased about bordeux, tbh)
