smart price slow cooker

Is it worth investing the £7.something for it? Or would I be better off investing in a slightly more expensive one do you think?

From what I can see on the website it's just a basic one with 3 settings that holds 4L

Anyone got one? Or could tell me a bit more about them I would be grateful

Thanks

I have a little one like that that cost about the same but I was since given a larger chrome one (don't know the capacity though).

I found the little one great but it's really only for cooking small meals, whereas the bigger one I can cook enough food for it to last 2 or 3 days for 2 of us.

FYI they have large chrome ones like mine on offer in Tesco at the moment for £11 I think. I'll try find the link

Just had a look and this one has a capacity of 3.5l so you may be better off with the SP cooker. I found this size more than enough for my family.

cheers, I'll go with one of those then. MIL can pick it up for me today while she's doing her shopping

Mine only has two settings (tis ancient, was my Mum's) but it does us fine.
I find I've enough for 3 meals for the two of us if that is all the meal, say something like casserole with meat, veg and potatoes in and something like a pasta sauce, or soup can do even more.
No idea what capacity that would make it though?

I've just picked up a slow cooker recipe book from a charity shop today so I'll be trying them out and will post any reccommendations on one of the slow cooker threads.

cheers Muggglewump, I'd be interested in trying them out for sure. MIL didn't go to Asda today or I would have been testing it out tomorrow, now I have to wait until next week

I'm quite impressed that you can do 3 meals for 2 in one go tbh. That would be fan-bloody-tastic!

i might get one, i have wanted one for ages and am prepared to take a punt on it for £7

pushchair · 17/10/2008 18:57

I just looked and they are out of stock

lucysmam · 17/10/2008 19:21

good job I didn't try and order online then as that was going to be on my list of things for tomorrow as oh said I can get it this week anyway since I'd already budgeted for it

I hope they have them in store next week!

I've just checked (tipping water into it using a measuring jug ) and I have a 3.5 litre.
I love it though, really wouldn't be without it and the size is perfect for us.

lucysmam · 17/10/2008 22:02

well that's one way of finding out!

What sorts of things do you cook in yours? I was thinking it would be good for mince based stuff/casseroles & soups. Anything else?

I got a very cheap one from Argos (think it cost about 8 pounds), it's quite a small one - but it's still going strong 4+ years later, so has been good value for money. Our local Tesco have some half priced onces for 9.95 (seem a good sized one too). But seems just because they're cheap, doesn't mean they're rubbish.

lucysmam · 17/10/2008 23:21

True, I just had visions of spending £7 I could have put towards something for 'me' for a change rather than for 'us' and it not working oronly lasting a short while & me being gutted!

I am going to get one though, sounds like they're often reasonably priced so if I can't get one of those then I can put the extra couple of quid towards it

Erm, I use it for mince based stuff, soups and stews!
In the book I bought today there's a recipe for rice pudding though, but I think that's the devil's work and vile!
You can also make porridge so I've read but I've not tried that yet, I don't eat breakfast and I'm not sure about making just enough for one portion?

Anyway, it's great for mince, soups and stews!

I bought my slow cooker for £9.99 out of Poundstretchers...and it's never let me down!
I use mine for soups, stews, rice pudding, and casseroles.
And it makes a wicked chilli!
