I know its early but can anyone link to/suggest things children can cook as Xmas gifts

Every Xmas we have to think of ideas for some very elderly relatives (in their 70's and 80's) who basically dont want anything but of course we have to give them something!
I am not much of a cook myself but wondered about giving some sort of homemade food gift which the children had made. It has to be smallish/something which will keep as they travel to the family home from quite a way and dont want to have to cart a large smelly item around!
Has there been a thread in previous years with any ideas? I was thinking we ought to get a practice round in before embarking on the final gift later in the year. (I really am not much of a cook so need trial runs!).
Thanks in advance.

I would have been tempted to say "oh yes"

Overmydeadbody · 04/10/2008 20:11

To risky. Someone would have bene on here claiming the photos belonged to their second cousin's neighbor's uncle and I couldn't possibly hasve made them!

They do look good. I will have to have a trial run. I could then post an alternative picture of the results on here
Am still looking forward to eating making a trial batch of white chocolate fudge too.

Hello again - I have searched for this elusive white chocolate and cranberry fudge receipe but cant find it on MN - does anyone have it? There are some if I look on google although they vary so I would love to find the one people are referring to.
Thanks

Christmas puddings, cos they will last a couple of years - get better with age. Have done truffles, but due to the cream content they dont last much more than 7-8 days and you need really to keep them in the fridge.

lakeland sell the pudding basin - just get the small ones and make 5-6 puddings all in one go. No need to make 44

Pineapple soaked in white rum and popped in a screww top jam jar - they do not smell and keep for a good few months. Tie pretty fabric over the top of the jar with ribbons to make festive. Served with ice cream is yummy.

This year I've decided I'm doing chocolate slabs like the kind you get in hotel chocolat with fruit/nuts etc in them. I've just ordered this mould pour in melted chocolate, artfully scatter some dried fruit and nuts into it, ta daah! I also ordered some cellophane bags to put them in.

Last year DS and I made lots of small (4" square) fruit cakes and decorated them together

OK, so I did most of the decorating (largely because I am a control freak when it comes to cakes) - DS did one snowman one alone and unaided, but then he drew pictures which I used to cover the cake boards (shrink wrap over the top of the picture to protect it and the cake from each other) - I was in favour of one picture which I would then scan and copy but DS insisted that each one had to have a different picture.

They were really well received by everyone.

Tnanks ND for recipe link - I knew it must be somewhere.
A question for someone please I hope this doesnt sound too dim but how long would home-made fudge keep for? (Dont worry I am not planning to make it NOW for Xmas but am wondering how far ahead I can make it and how long it would be safe to keep for.)

profyaffle - that fab site you linked to has inspired me - I think I am going to get some of their boxes and make cupcakes for teachers, carers etc this year...

ProfYaffle · 06/10/2008 14:34

Stealthsquiggle - I had to be very self controlled on that site!

Jam, jelly, chutney, pickeled walnut. All dressed up with pretty Christmassy labels and ribbons. Easy to keep and transport.
