Are gigantic pumpkins good to eat?

We've been given the most enormous pumpkin (actually an acorn squash I think, but similar to a pumpkin). It is the biggest thing I've ever seen.

We're supposed to be carving it for Halloween, I think.

Was wondering, will the flesh make good eating, or is it likely to be dry and woody having gotten so huge?

i'd say no based on past experience - just carve for halloween.

They normally go stringy and watery rather than woody - ifyou must eat it, roast the flesh cut into chunks and then make into soup.

I made pumpkin soup once from the innards of a large pumpkin and it was horrible!

yes i too tried the soup after roasting it and it was vile - had to be thrown away and i never do that.

So carve and chuck the middle then?

Think so - yes.
