love the french marmiton dot com (french version much better than the english btw) for ideas or rough guide to cooking something.

Thanks I'm checking it out now

I love the Good Food one. Whatever I want to cook there is always a decent recipe (that works) I think thats the one that you can choose 3 ingredients and it brings up a match - useful when you're trying to use something up!

MingMingtheWonderPet · 01/10/2008 12:52

Another vote for the Good Food website here.
Recipes seem well tested aswell, and turn out well.
Also good comments from people who have tried the recipes.

Carmenere · 01/10/2008 13:11

Yes the Good Food one is really comprehensive isn't it.

www.uktvfood.co.uk

and

www.recipezaar.com

On recipe zaar I like the fact that you can mess with ingredients - if you search for a recipe and realise you don' thave an ingredient, you can make it search again wtihout usi9ng that ingredient iykwim

Thanks for those links MamaG

BBC

mabel1973 · 01/10/2008 16:29

I use the BBC one, i like that you can search by several ingredients.
I tend to steer clear of the ready steady cook recipes on there though, sometimes they are just a bit too bizarre!

Carmenere I've been giving some thought to why Idon't use the MN recipe section much. I do use food websites a lot, but not MN

I think one thing is that there are no pics (i know, so shallow!) and i sometimes wonder if people have made the stuff, or just put any old shit to win a comp

Carmenere · 02/10/2008 12:49

Thanks MamaG. They are the obvious flaws though aren't they? I have trawled through about 1800 of the recipes so far to make sure that they work in theory and when folks come back to rate them that is quite good but I know what you mean. If you are looking for a dependable recipe, you don't really want to take the risk that someone has made a typo Cod's choc muffins for eg

However I think we can work on that. We could put a 'tried and tested' asterisk beside the ones that have been or something.

As for pics, well they cost lots to have done but I have made some suggestions to MNHQ, there might be some way of gradually building up pics.

Yes pics probably wouldn't work. I did wonder if the MNer who added teh recipe could add their own pic (remember the smoked glass plate? ) but htat probably wouldn't work either!

I do like the tried and tested asterisk idea though.

Maybe a gentle reminder at hte bottom of each recipe "if you tried this recipe, then please do put a comment, good or bad" would help? It would certainly encourage me.

I like the Waitrose recipes section. I've done a few things there and they're great. And the search facility works well.

Carmenere · 02/10/2008 20:41

Funny you should mention that Mamag I just suggested to MNHQ that mners should upload pics of their own efforts

Yes Bling, I use the Waitrose recipes too. I got a great roast pork and lentil one there.

One of my favourites is taste.com.au
Helpful recipe collections, most recipes are rated, comments with suggestions, pictures. I use it at least once a week.

EBenes · 02/10/2008 21:07

BBC - easy search and lots of big chef names, often presenting variations on the same recipe, so you can choose the one you like the sound/hairstyle of.
