Can I freeze strawberries and raspberries? Oh, and bananas

and then use them, frozen, in smoothies?

Just I make smoothies every morning and have to buy fresh strawberries/raspberries/bananas every couple of days but I've just been round the shop and they have tons of fruit reduced to nominal amounts, but obviously it won't last long.

I have heard that strawberries go mushy when frozen, so I could use them frozen, no?

What about bananas what do they freeze like?

Thanks.

Strawberries and raspberries are fine. Strawberries do go mushy but they'd be fine for smoothies or puddings.

Never tried bananas though.

Yes you can freeze both and they are good for smoothies or mix with jelly. Or make small amounts of jam.

Bananas are better in smoothies when frozen, IMO (slice them before freezing, then blend in still frozen). You get a smoother texture out of a frozen banana, I think.

Thankyou!

Yes, yes and yes!

Strawberries tend to mush, but obviously would be fine in a smoothie. Bananas are great - peel them, freeze them either whole or in chunks, then pop them in the blender still frozen when you make your smoothie.

You could even make up 'smoothie bags' with a combination of fruit in the right amount to make the smoothies. Then just tip frozen fruit into the blender with your juice or yoghurt or whatever and blend away.

I've seen smoothie stalls at festivals etc do just this - each smoothie flavour is kept bagged in the freezer, so they can make any of their flavours within seconds. Saves messing about.

Ah, good idea ecoworrier, hadn't thought of that. Bit daft as I used to buy frozen smoothie mix. Doh!

Will the frozen fruit still be as good as fresh fruit nutritionally?

What can't I freeze? They also have a ton of broccoli and carrots (for about 20p a bag!) and I'm starting BLW next week. Would they be freezeable?
