So I've eaten well, only healthy food and plenty of it.

I now (as usual) want to stuff myself with a bar or 2 of chocolate, or lots of cake.

Usually I would give in(well always, actually) - so what do I do? I feel so week and empty.

(This is not a diet thead - I'm not on a diet - I just wan't to loose the muffin top that I've aquired this year.)

No advice but will watch with interest.

I, too, fall foul of the 'brown rice and veg for dinner, followed by family sized bar of Green & Blacks that I must have or I'll go mad...'

In a word - pineapple. Same sugar rush as sweeties. Tinned or fresh, doesn't matter.

fourlittlefeet · 29/09/2008 20:04

have something else sweet or a small amount of what you really want. large glasses of water and some (non-food) distraction are good! or have a hot chocolate.

Fruit and yoghurt puddings are good and jelly is fairly sweet but low calorie. baked apples are fab...

doesn't help you right now, but with a bit of planning you can have your pudding and eat it!

Fruit often works. You might well be genuinely hungry, and the fibre etc will fill you up.

Or - if you think it's fat you're missing, have a little bit - was your dinner low-fat? Low fat -> hungry half an hour later, for some pretty clear physiological reasons.

I had macaroni cheese with (wholemeal pasta)and crudites.

DS2 has just offered me a milky way from his party bag.

I think pinapple muffins would be a compromise wouldn't they. I feel the need to bake. (It is true you don't put on weight with home made food, isn't it?)

That sounds like a reasonable tea. Have you given it time to settle?

Pineapple muffins or similar sounds wise. You can put on weight with home made food, but you can also bake in a lower-GI way (put nuts in the muffins; use less sugar; use wholemeal flour)

NotQuiteCockney · 29/09/2008 20:17

The other thing is, anyway, you can end up with a habit of eating at a specific time, and you will get hungry then, whether or not you need it. IME.

So if I stop eating sugar in the evenings I will eventually not want sugar in the evengs?

I'm prepared to test this theory!

fourlittlefeet you are my doom!

I had no cravings until I read your post about jelly. Realised I had jelly - woohooo! Realised with regret that jelly won't be ready for a million years. Will now have to polish of remnants of Mackie's Honeycomb in the freezer as compensation.

Grrrrrrr!

I gave up sugar back in April/May time

Like you, didn't want to lose weight as such, just wanted to be a bit healthier and stop eating so much crap

Haven't had any since (well, a slice of dd2's b'day cake in August)

It's great... like giving up smoking. REALLY hard initially but easier as time passes. Now don't think about it

And have lost about 3/4 stone too

puffylovett · 29/09/2008 21:10

Have a couple of squares of really good quality dark chocolate. It shoud be just enough to curb the craving but still allow you to enjoy that sweet rush.

works for a lot of people I know !

Montezuma's is the best make I think

LynetteScavo · 29/09/2008 21:50

puffylovett, my mum tells me to do that; which is why I don't do it. (messed up relationship )

Hmm, the dark chocolate thing sometimes works.

But I find having sugar (ever, really) encourages me to want more sugar.

Mimsy2000 · 29/09/2008 22:18

ok it's of course no where near as good as chocolate but my solution for dealing with sweet cravings after dinner was dried mango from waitrose or sainsburys. you have to make sure to the the kind that doesn't have any added sugar and certain batches are better than others but when you get a good batch it's yummy and keeps you regular
