I know you can cook your own food and freeze it but just wondering if anyone has come across anything that you can pull out from the freezer and bung in the oven (e.g fishfingers and chips) but is healthy?

Loads of frozen food is healthy. Freezing it doesn't make it unhealthy. I think fishfingers, chips and peas is fine.

vegetables and fruit are quite often better than fresh as the vitamins are better preserved. I always keep a stack in the freezer.

better frozen than from the chiller cabinet

There is no such thing as an unhealthy food (except food that has gone off / infected). Its really a question of balance - fish and chips can be Ok - some options are better than others (example use breadcrumb vs batter fish) frozen chips that are oven cooked have less fat in them than deep fryed. So if you can moderate what you eat and how often you can then eat 'unhealthy' foods. Frozen foods like peas, sweetcorn and the like can often be better than 'fresh' when been hanging around the shops for a while or flown in from somewhere.

glad you all said that! So what do you keep in your freezer other than veg and fruit?

I'd eat lots of beans on toast and scarmbled eggs and omelettes

I think its birds eye that do those 4 x bags of rice and veg, they are lovely.

mad4mybaby · 24/09/2008 19:17

undercovercat · 24/09/2008 19:53

oh no idea sorry, i throw the packaging and just squeeze the little bags in the freezer.

AlexJones36 · 23/05/2011 17:04

I use little freezer bags like undercovercat all the time, its really easy to make a couple of large pots of something and divide it up (and considering how much the little ones eat... its really time saving)

I found www.thenewiceage.com was pretty useful for some nice recipes and advice, might help some of you out.
