put an apple in with 'em

BigTeuchLittleTeuch · 24/09/2008 16:26

and keep them in a cupboard, away from light.

I hadn't heard about the apple. I find it helps to keep them in the dark.

Notquitegrownup · 24/09/2008 16:27

lol - cross post.

WowOoo · 24/09/2008 16:27

Are you storing them in a cool, dark place?

I had some that were mostly green and returned them to tesco with receipt and got money back. (after we'd eaten the nicest of them for dinner!)

Overmydeadbody · 24/09/2008 16:29

take them out of their plastic bag if you buy them packaged already.

Then store them in a cool dark place, preferably lined with brown paper or newspaper.

I have been wondering the same...Also they start sprouting within moments of going in the cupboard. Is it ok to eat them (I throw green ones out ).

alienbump · 24/09/2008 16:31

Keep them in the fridge - they last for weeks then

elliephant · 24/09/2008 16:53

Store them in a cool, (not fridge it affects their sugar levels and makes them soft), dark place, in a paper sack. Plastic will make them sweat and sprout. Ideally, if you want to store them for more than a couple of days, buy them unwashed. Peel muddy spuds under running water - its easy and clean.
