Snacks

Can someone recommend some quick and easy (and cheap if possible) snacks to either make or buy other than fruit, flapjacks, yoghurts or crisps.

The lo I'm looking after through the day is eating me out of fruit and yoghurts (which I've paid for!) & his parents are only providing dinner for him (which is going to change when I see them next) but my lo doesn't really have any snacks that aren't homemade or fruit or a yoghurt so I'm strugglng a bit to find something he likes that doesn't cost the earth!

He won't try home-made anything other than flap jack and cake but have had to tell him they're from the shop so he doesn't go hungry after nursery (if he doesn't think hey're from the shop he won't eat them) & I feel a bit mean telling him if he doesn't want whatever I give him then he'll go hungry until whoever is picking him up picks him up at 5pm!

Any ideas would be great as I'm really struggling. Never come across such a fussy lo yet

Lucy, you obviously haven't met my ds then!

Anyway

Rice cakes
Sandwich
Malt loaf
Bagel

Mercy, I make bread myself . . . he wouldn't eat a sarnie because the bread wasn't the same as supermarket bought stuff the other night

rice cakes could be a good one to try or ryvita. I'd happily munch on cheese & my lo loves it but he doesn't. Probably doesn't like malt loaf but I'll get a cheap one to try.

Looks like I'm not the only one who tries to get my lo to eat healthy snacks, rather than shite!

My DS1 likes wholemeal pitta bread on its own as a snack! As long as it is nice and fresh and soft it is lovely (esp M&S one).

Also agree with rice cakes (apple and orange ones are a bit nicer than plain) and breadsticks. Never met a small child who wont eat breadsticks!

Pitta bread and Humus is healthy and tasty. As well I eat Tastees snacks. They are made from rice and baked so they are healthier and maybe worth a try.

Cheese on toast
cheese and crackers
pitta bread with various fillings
bowl of cereal (dry or with milk)

Why does he refuse home made stuf??

Popcorn is a really good one and so cheap to make. You can drizzle it with a spoonful each of honey and butter melted together and it's really delicious.
