Open it and smell it. If it smells fine I'd use it.

LittleMyDancing · 09/09/2008 20:50

As long as it smells ok, then it's fine, especially if it's in date. The brown is just the blood congealing (sounds disgusting, I know!) but it doesn't mean the meat is off.

DisasterArea · 09/09/2008 20:51

someting to do with air getting at it i think. DH has gone to bed so i can't ask him.
sniff it.

nowwearefour · 09/09/2008 20:52

i cook when the mince looks like this but still in date all the time. if it smells ok am sure will be fine.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/09/2008 20:52

every time I ask this question, I am always laughed at and told that meat is supposed to be that colour.

Uranus · 09/09/2008 20:55

Thank for all your answers. I haven't opened the packs yet, as will be cooking in the morning. If they smell OK I will use them!

i think it is oxidising, so reacting to the air in teh packet. or light or something. anyway i eat anything unless it is actually rotten and nothing awful has happened to me or those i have fed. your nose will tell you.

tissy · 09/09/2008 20:56

if it was wrapped in paper, not cling film it would look like that while still in the shop. It will be fine.

Whizzz · 09/09/2008 20:57

yes it goes brown on contact with air - shouldn't be a problem

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2008 20:58

Use it as long as it doesn't smell bad.
