my dd is back at dancing so straight from school tommorrow is a one hour dance class with no time for tea inbetween. she is having a banana and flapjacks for a snack but at the local shop they are 75p each and smothered in toffee or chocolate

i have never made flapjacks since secondary school however and dont even know where to start. im looking for something that will fill her up and provide enough energy to get her through her class but not too much sugar as she is hyper and gets worse with sugar.

Hmmm I have a recipe but they are full of golden syrup, not sure if that's what you want?

im not sure arent all flapjacks full of golden syrup? is that not how they stick togther

re her sugar intake i think its only actual sugar in very very high amounts that affects her and colourings. see she can eat chocolate/toffee etc just fine but one sip of coke and she is bouncing off the walls all night.

i was after something quite healthy but doesnt have to be perfectly healthy.

i replace the golden syrup in my flapjacks with honey, reduce amount of sugar slightly and put dried fruit in for natural sweetness. no recipe as i make it up. i also ue a healthy oil instead of fat. tend to be a bit crumbly but still yummy.

i think have found a good recipe via google. one question though are sunflower seeds okay for 15 month old to eat as the recipe contains those or should i give her something else?

Here's a recipe that I use...

FRUITY FLAPJACKS

130g Golden Syrup (I find it easier to weigh it rather than measure it in a jug!)
120g Butter (or I use dairy free spread for my allergic dd)
50g demerara sugar
225g porridge oats
100g dried, chopped apricots
50g sultanas or raisins

Preheat oven to 170 (150 fan) or gas 3.
If you have a metal syrup tin, stand it in hot water for a short while to loosen it up.
Put syrup, butter and sugar in a pan and slowly heat up till all melts (I do this in microwave for 30-60 secs). Mix together.
Toss oats and dried fruit together in mixing bowl and then add (slightly cooled) syrup mixture. Mix thoroughly until all coated then press all into a greased baking tin (6.5" x 10"). Press down firmly.
Bake for 20-25 mins (check if golden on top).
Cool in tin then mark into squares.

I did these yesterday and I dont expect them to last very long.

I also think whether using syrup or honey, they will still be healthier then any bought in the shop

I got a really simple one from here :

5.5 oz porridge oats
4 oz butter/marg
3 oz dem sugar

Melt butter, combine oats and sugar and add melted butter. Grease shallow tin. Oven 190 for 15/20 mins. Cut when hot but leave to cool before removing. My dc's love them!

I've got an Annabel Karmel recipe from the Tesco website that's good. It has lots of dried fruit and seeds in for energy. I'll attempt a link (but they don't usually work!!)
