Want to get DP a holiday treat but I'm not a whisky drinker. Can anyone recommend a good single malt (pref one available from the supermarket)?

Oh I think your DP will enjoy big jugs

Isle of Jura is nice....not too heavy and peaty like some western malts

balvenie double wood is just gorgeous.

i have two much cherished jugs. one from Argyll Vintners and another from a shop in Pitlochry.

i normally use them to water our houseplants.

until my mother gets here.

then i pour her dram into her glass and fill one of the jugs with fresh water for her nightcap.

she loves her whisky indeed.

DH likes a dram of a dreich, kald, dark evening as well - of which there is no shortgage here .

he gets a bottle of Aberfeldy every year on his birthday as a gift from the girls.

Thanks blueberry. I can't do baileys after an incident. FIL might go for it though. He drinks all sorts.

I love hearing about traditions folks have, particularly around earthy real life things, like bread or whisky. Thanks expat.

i got DH a proper whisky glass for our anniversary.

and the landlord left one here for my mother to use on her visits.

she and DH make an evening of it.

Sounds good. Do you not join in?

expatinscotland · 25/08/2008 22:48

sometimes.

i'm more of a wine drinker myself.

they savour their whisky.

the nextdoor neighbours are connoisseurs with a beautiful, warm house.

so they go over there with bottles of good cheer and it's always good crack.

i just take along my wine and Papa happily stays here with the TV all to himself and the wee ones in their beds.
