Goji Berries - are they edible?

Because they don't taste edible! I thought it was just me not 'getting' them but both my student dd and a neighbour have said they don't get them either. We suspect they're actually woodchips that have been dyed red. Any ideas of what I can do with them, recipe-wise?

we don't get them either.
and ds2 normally eats anything!

claricebeansmum · 18/08/2008 18:45

Gillian McKeith always warbled on about them but look where that got her

Overmydeadbody · 18/08/2008 18:46

They are a complete waste of money and a clever marketing ploy.

There is nothing in them that makes them more worthy of being a superfood than, say, carrots...or blueberries.

PootyApplewater · 18/08/2008 18:52

we got them for ds2, as they are supposed to ease/lessen asthma symptoms.
we've no idea if they work, as he wouldn't eat the berries.

ScummyMummy · 18/08/2008 18:58

they are disgusting. i'll be very interested to see if anyone likes them. it seems impossible!

nkf · 18/08/2008 19:00

I read some nutritionist on the subject. She said they are packed with all sorts of good things. But then so are apples. Superfoods my foot.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/08/2008 19:01

gah they are vile !! ds insisted on buying some but we can't eat them and he likes funny old sour things - that's probably why Gillian McKeith likes them, they're nasty and not much fun.

PootyApplewater · 18/08/2008 19:07

we should all take our unused berries and use them to make some sort of sculpture to the goddess of fads.

tiggerlovestobounce · 18/08/2008 19:12

I dont think they are edible. My sister eats loads of them though

suedonim · 18/08/2008 20:51

Maybe I should have put this in AIBU - I'd have had 100% agreement! WTF's a goji anyway?

goji juice however is v nice according to ds - but I think it's mixed with other fruit juices

halogen · 18/08/2008 21:11

They are vile. The only person I know who eats them willingly is my dad who operates on an 'if it tastes nasty it must be good for you' principle.

Try putting them in stocks or steaming them with chicken - that is what they do in Asia and how they should be eaten - makes them go sweet and juicy!
