We are having cheesy footballs first to nibble, then prawn cocktail for a starter, pavlova and black forest gateaux for dessert.......but I am stuck on the main course.

Anyone got any ideas??

Babycham = excellent. Or Snowballs? Tried Campari and soda last week for first time (inspired by ks) - tasted like battery acid.

Beef bourginion will slowcook though, won't it (?never done it myself) so should be nice and tender anyway.

snafu · 15/02/2005 19:13

But my vote is still for TWO fondues - none more 70s...

WideWebWitch · 15/02/2005 19:13

Prawn cocktail, oh, you're doing that! Spag bol? Oh, cam said that! Coq au vin will be revolting won't it? Ewww! Sounds fun, let us know what you have. If I was at my mum's I could look in her 70s Cordon Bleu cookbooks, they're marvellous period pieces!

Tinker · 15/02/2005 19:15

Coq au vin's gorgeous! Or do Nigel Slater's coq au reisling. In fact, you must serve German wine.

WideWebWitch · 15/02/2005 19:18

Oh yes, wine in raffia bottles! Mateus Rose!

Ameriscot2005 · 15/02/2005 19:34

Scary number of dishes that I cook regularly

My choices would be:

Prawn Cocktail
Steak Diane (might be a bit expensive though)
Black Forest Gateau.

Wine is tricky as 70s popular wines are boak. Raffia bottles are a good idea though, so that would make you think of Rioja or Chianti.

WideWebWitch · 15/02/2005 19:37

Oooh, now steak diane brings back memories of working as a waitress when I was 18 and steak diane being flambeed at the table. Class.

Ameriscot2005 · 15/02/2005 19:38

I make Beef Bourginogne quite often (well, 2 or 3 times a year). I just use cheap stewing beef and cook it for 2 - 3 hours. It's easy-peasy. Substitute chicken for beef and you have coq au vin, but it doesn't need to cook for as long.

Tinker · 15/02/2005 19:38

Oh, now you've said flambe what about crepe Suzette?

Ameriscot2005 · 15/02/2005 19:39

I love steak diane - haven't had it for years though - too expensive to buy fillet steak for the kids. When I was a WM and DS was

Gammon and pineapple!

Ameriscot2005 · 15/02/2005 19:40

G & P, we had that last week!

popsycal · 15/02/2005 19:45

havent read all this thread but you have to have an orange cut in half with cokctail sticks stuck in the back like a hedgehog with pineapple, cheese and sausage on.....

helsi · 15/02/2005 19:50

Scampi & chips in a basket!

marthamoo · 15/02/2005 19:54

Have to have candles in raffia bottles too - so you may have to drink some beforehand.

motherinferior · 15/02/2005 19:54

Can you have a power cut halfway through?

Cam · 16/02/2005 10:52

Hope you've got G-Plan furniture and bean bags
