I have had a beef casserole in the slow cooker since 9am.

It still jusy looks like meat and veg in thin gravy. Will it thicken on it's own by tonight?

I have no corn-flour to help it along later

have you any ordinary flour, or potatoes?

ib · 13/08/2008 11:57

Did you toss the meat in flour before browning it?

Do you have any lentils?
Or plain flour( I don't use cornflour just mix some of the meat juice with plain flour to a paste then add back in)

I prefer to thicken with red lentils though

my cheating tip: chuck in a little bit of gravy granules/powder

I find they don't thicken, sorry.

you could add some cornflour, oatbran or some potatoes or soemthing.. maybe? I made a runny chicken one last week - still tasted nice but looked shite lol

I find that in a slow cooker it doesn't, sorry.

Just before you're ready to eat you could put it in another pan on the hob and simmer it for a bit to reduce some of the liquid.

There is some parsnip in it, but no potatoes. I was going to make roasties later.

No didn't roll the meat in flour

dissolve flour in water (so no lumps)

add to casserole

Jux · 13/08/2008 12:03

Mash flour into butter and drop it in. That's my cheat.
