Freezing apple

I have been given a bag of apples but they're not going to keep long raw. I would like to freeze them for crumble or apple sauce at a later date. What is the best way to precook and freeze them for reuse ?

I tend to cook them fairly lightly - so they are still chunky rather than puree and freeze them unsweetened.

Stew or bake ?

Stew in a saucepan with a little bit of water. Usually cook them for 5 minutes or so.

Reminds me I've loads in the freezer from last autumn .

I froze apple sauce last year, but it tasted funny. I think it reacted with the foil containers I used. Just in case, I'd use plastic containers to freeze, if I were you.

I peel and slice and pop in a freezer bag raw, they're fine.

yep zaphod is right, the acidity in the apples can react with foil, use plastic.

Stew them as laith said, or just like you where making apple pie filling, and freeze.

Defrost in the fridge overnight, or at room temp or even in the microwave.
