as i'm on a super-duper tight budget this week. stuff like beans, tinned toms and mince, tea bags etc (basic stuff really) have to be included as well, but i'd like to still be able to do something a bit interesting and exciting with the limited budget i have. also, i dont have a freezer at the mo so all needs to be either fresh, able to refrigerate for a week or cupboard type stuff.

thanks in advance for any suggestions xx

I second the above!
cheese, tuna, eggs, onions, potatoes, beans sausages (Regular and baking if you can stretch to it)so you can have
spanish omelet
egg & lentil curry
baked potatoes (with cheese/beans or tuna)
toad in the hole (makes sausages go further!)
Also tesco's do a fabulous little quiche lorraine that about ?1.20 in Ireland.
let us know if you do it!

Bleugh!
Cheap sausages!
I too would rather have bread and butter!

Also check out the reduced to clear fridge, you might find something usefull even though you can't freeze it.

thanks for ideas, am going to sit and write a list in a mo.

twowashtutter, my freezer's broken so there's nothing at all in there but i would have been rifling through it if it was working

electric, french bread pizzas sound good. thought about trying them a few times but never got round to it so now is ideal to try, also tuna fish cakes have never tried but sound tasty so will be trying them but might add some sweetcorn as well.

sausages, easy enough hot dogs with salad.

jacket spuds i love so will invest in some big ones.

thanks very much for all suggestions, off 2 sort my list now xx

i know its not been exactly casserole weather, but we love a chicken casserole made with chicken thigh fillets from the butchers(no bone and cheap). just some sliced carrots and some swede, couple sticks of celery and an onion, and cover with a veg stock cube. thicken at end if required with a few chicken granules. cook for about 2 hours slowly. Really tasty, much more so than chicken breast, and almost goes "broth" like if its cooked for a long time. we have it with mash, jackets, or even crusty bread. Can get two meals from it if use a large casserole dish and put lots of veg in.

Mince. Chicken Thighs. Eggs. Flour. Sausages. Milk. Stock cubes.

Tinned Toms. Baked Beans. Sweetcorn and peas etc.

Market for loads of Veg including spuds.

Rice and Pasta.

With some herbs, garlic, onion etc you can do lots with this.

Spag bol, Cottage Pie, Chicken casserole, Toad in the hole, Chicken Curry, vegetable rice (LLs recipe sounds good), Spaggetti with tomato and hidden veg sauce. Jacket Spuds.

Don't forget bread for sarnies and toast.

I'm not sure you could do all that for £15 unless you have some bits in the cupboard already. I have a lot of courgettes free to a good home if you like them and can collect

Anyone know the ingredients list for the 2p sausages? I'm a label freak and do not have an Asda near me to check

Do you have flour and yeast in the house for making a pizza base?

Mince, onion/garlic chopped tinned tomatoes for a pasta sauce. Pasta shapes of cheapest variety.

Make enough sauce to use on pizza the following day. Thin layer of grated value cheddar

French bread pizza can be made from the part-baked bagettes, which are fairly cheap and store well.

brill, so long as what i get can be stored for up to a week and is tasty and a bit interesting that's all im bothered about.

lmao@ wheresthehamster!!! just read up to q? about asda 2p sausages, i usually do my fortnightly shopping at asda and have never seen them - and i have hunted for them - but hey'd probably be no good anyways

I just thought of another thing. Cauliflower cheese. I always adapt mine and put carrots, onions, peas and other stuff in it, you could probably get away with that on its own for a meal.

buy cheapest bag of potatoes - can stretch to lots of meals - baked potatoes with insides removed, mixed with grated cheese/onion/whatever really then replaced into potato and baked a bit longer, then home made mash with beans and cheese or sausages and home made redonion gravy (v. cheap and easy to make) another night, then thinly sliced potatoes baked in layers with onions, maybe leek or mushroom, garlic, carton of single cream poured over, seasoning and some grated cheese on top. That makes 3 meals from one bag of potatoes, block of budget cheddar, tin or two of beans and some veggies or sausages. Can also heat up packet of tortilla wraps (often cheap) or taco shells and put bowls on table with things for people to put inside - grated carrot/cheese/peppers/tomatoes/cooked chicken/tuna/iceberg lettuce etc- very cheap and easy and good for using up leftovers

zippi, sounds like you get some good bargains at your local tesco!!! ours only ever have the odd damaged crate of beer or salad dressing to be had usually. co-op reduced stuff gets picked over by the staff first so anything decent doesn't get put on the rack (only know that as oh used to work there). will keep my eyes peeled though for anything i could make use of!!

thirtysomething, the sliced pots with onions, mush, garlic and cream sounds very tasty so will def try that this weekend!

electric, love cauli cheese but never put anything else in it so will try some different stuff as well this week as im off to market for veggies and fruit so will get some other bits to try.

thanks for those suggestions, im going to have to re-do my list as there's some very tasty sounding recipes and ideas on here!

i have woirked out that they do the reduced pricing from about 6 till 8 in the evening and a bit in the day

but during the evening they leave the reduced price stuff in situ on the shelves not in the reduced shelf area

they do put the mega reduced items in the reduced shelf

by 11 when the store closes they have put more stuff on the reduced shelf and reduced it most

i do however have nothing better to do in the evening and it is only a few minutes walk from my house

and as i said i have got addicted to it

my freezer is nearly full lol

Lol, the last few months DH and I have spent about £30 a month on food! Probably not the healthiest but no choice

My main advice is cheap supermarket pasta, with tins of chopped tomatoes as sauce. If you've got them in stock, add herbs for some flavouring, and also things like veg, onions etc if you have them.

i have yummy boiled ham, with mash and veggies,
any left over will do cold with egg and chips or jackets or even with pasta
and the best of all is the stock made into delicious soup!
