Really bitter homemade houmous - did I use too much tahini or is it off?

I've never had this before - my houmous has a really bitter aftertaste. Tahini could have been kicking around for a while - it is just about edible but should I chuck it? Made it for today's lunch.

tahini isn't usually bitter - too much would make it cloying but not bitter.

can you bear to chuck it out?

GColdtimer · 26/07/2008 11:13

OK, so it isn't too much then, it probably is the fact it has gone off.

I can't really bear to through it out BBB but perhaps I should - how awful would I feel if DD scoffed the lot (she loves it) and then was ill.

I completely understand wher you are coming from witht he throwing out thing - I am just the same.

I do not know about toxicity adn sesame seeds going off.

This is what I would do:

chuck in what you have of these:
drained tin of chick peas
pinch sugar
salt + pepper
lemon
lots of olive oil
lemon

blitz it and see what it tastes like

thanks BBB, that is exactly what I did. Shoved in everything I could think of - I think the salt and lemon juice did the trick. DD and her friends scoffed the lot for lunch and no reports of poorly tummies so far .

I have thrown out the tahini though.
