I have always had trouble with flapjacks, the either end up to hard or like yours dont stick together. I am also interested in a fool proof receipe.

Thry these, my mum used to make them when I was a kid and I'd have to take a whole batch into school cos my friends all loved them too:

Nutty Flapjacks

Grease a square (or oblong) baking tin and preheat oven to 190 c/ Gas mark 5

Melt 4 oz margarine and 1 tbsp syrup gently in a saucepan.

Mix in a bowl, 4 oz sugar, 2 oz oats, 2 oz SR flour, and 3 oz crushed cornflakes.

Pour on the melted marge and syprup and mix thoroughly.

Pack mixture down into prepared tin and bake for exactly 15 mins.

Mark out finger or square shapes whilst still warm but then leave to cool in the pan.

I sometimes replace the cornflakes with crunchy nut cornflakes or bran lakes. I also sometimes add dried fruit but only a little. I've also used a variety of sugars which changes the taste nicely.

Melt some chocolate on the bottom of your tray and let it set. Then pile your oaty mixture ontop of that and take it out of the oven WAY before they tell you too! That way it goes all sticky and icky and the chocolate is still warm and melting .....appropriate for Cadbury?!!

14 oz oats
5oz butter
4 oz sugar
2 desert spoons of malt (add more butter or golden syrup if you don't have malt)

melt butter, mix all together, cook for 15-20 mins gas mark 4-5

A big hit in our house - almost a staple food
