Artficial sweeteners

I know that they are bad - after reading so much about them I switched back to sugar but after a few months now my belly is back!!!

I know I need to cut back on the wine and chocolate first and foremost but what about Splenda? The main ingregdient is Sucralose. Does anyone know anything about it? I just can't manage tea with no sweetness at all!

Sucralose is relatively new to the market so long-term effects of it aren't known, unlike the evil aspartame etc...

I know Sainsbos made the switch to it in all their diet drinks recently, so they obviously feel it's 'better'...

It's a derivative of sugar but in order to remove the carbs etc it's been through a fairly intense chemical process - this link gives other links to both sides of the debate.

I do use it, because I can't drink black coffee without something sweet in it, but I try to stick to water and limit myself to one cup a day (unless I'm stressed in work and then all bets are off!)

HTH

I did some work for a rival company to the one that produces Splenda a few years back, basically trying to warn people about the dangers of Sucralose. I can't remember all the facts but I know that there were literally thousands of case studies where people had some pretty nasty reactions to sucralose. It also transpired (and this is from memory, so don't quote me) that the chemicals used in the manufacturing of sucralose are the same of those used in the WW2 holocaust gas chambers - nice! I'd steer well clear if ossible, try a drop of honey in your tea instead. It's natural and you need far less of it than sugar. HTH

Thank-you both! I generally try to adhere to the 'granny's store cupboard' argument -
Maybe I'll stick to sugar, just less of it

Substituting artificial sweetners in an effor to lose weight is the wrong way to go about it, tbh.

Because they are all vile and there's reasearch to suggest they may even increase your appetite.
