Babyccinos?

I confess that one of the highlights of my days packed with stimulating toddler activities is the chance to sit down for 5 mins with a nice grande latte (an occassional muffin).

I've recently discovered the joys of the "babyccino" (quite possible that this is mostly a London thing, so for those that aren't in the area it is steamed milk froth served in a cute little cup with a sprinkle of chocolate on the top).

On the plus side it keeps DD (20 months) happy and content spooning the froth into her mouth and keeps her sticky fingers off my treat for long enough for me to enjoy it.

On the downside I feel I may be hooking her far too early on the whole coffee culture and I dread the day she stays "baby - chino please" in front of one of my relatives. I will never live it down.

Does anyone else indulge their little ones in this over priced froth?

A friend has one of those very wizzy coffee makers at home. I was round there the other day with ds and another mate with her kids, sampling the delights of Proper Coffee.

Wizzy Machine Friend suddenly sang out to her ds across the garden 'Darling! Come and have your babyccino!'

She did have the good grace to look completely mortified at herself The kids loved 'em, though.

my dd used to like having her own cup of milky foam (never remember actually paying for it?!), but i hate the name.....

We have them up in the wilds of north essex - it is DSs fave treat when we go shopping - the only way to get him to go actually although it does sound a pretentious thing to order doesn't it?

You can buy a £0.99 battery powered milk frother from Ikea and create your own yuppy kiddie drinks in the comfort of your own home.

Though you do end up with children who say to their friends "Would you like a babycino" the minute they come through the door.

i use my bullet blender to make some at home. froth it up then heat in the microwave.

My DCs aren't great milk drinkers but will sit happily like the cossetted urban ponces they are with a babycino and drink them nicely from their little espresso cups.

They are free in some places or about 50p - with marshmallow and flake - in Costa. 2 childrens drinks for a quid has to be a good deal in my book.

I sometimes here myself saying "Darlings, do you want a babycino" and shudder at my own total middle classness, but I get over it.

We are also middle class wankers and so have an espresso machine with milk steamer. (DH's fault!) We've recently started making 23 mth odl DS his own babycino in an espresso cup (with sprinkles, natch), mainly to stop him hassling us for a swig of ours...

mazzystar · 01/07/2008 15:06

ds loves them - he's 3.8
for christmas we bought him a milk frother and a pot of chocolat carbonel so now he makes his own
ponce and proud

Our local cafe do these as a freebie for all children under school age with paying adult drink. Choice of water/milk/mint tea or babychino.

Then they are great with kiddies - big box of books, crayon tubs and loads of paper, chalk board wall on the far end etc etc. They will never go bust as they know exactly how to rope in the mums and toddlers

hoxtonchick · 01/07/2008 15:11

have tried fobbing mine off with these but they always demand hot chocolate .
