Roast beef for Christmas

I normally feed the 5000 at Christmas and I am required to cook turkey. This year is a complete departure - there will only be 4 of us, all adults, and two will have had turkey for Thanksgiving so are happy not to have it for Christmas dinner.

So I have decided to cook a great joint of beef. Unfortunately my lovely local butcher has just retired so I'm looking to order something on line. I want something really special and am happy to pay accordingly. I'm thinking small producers who sell their own meat.

Can anyone suggest a good supplier and perhaps a particular joint/cut you have been happy with.

Thank you.

I also order from the Dorset Meat Company and have had a rib and a sirloin and always excellent.

I'm near Bath.

Thanks for the replies. A rib of beef is one of my favourite roasts (albeit expensive).

Get a rib of beef from the butcher at the Newton St Loe farm shop.. it's a fantastic butcher. We always get meat there if we are cooking a special dinner when visiting MIL who lives nearby.

Thanks for the Newton St Loe tip, @Ophy83 .
And I second what @Flowersandfauna and @Tiddlywinks63 said about Allington Farm Shop - DS and family are regular customers, and recommend the breakfasts.

@Tiddlywinks63 - love the user name , is it geographically inspired I wonder ?

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. I will enjoy exploring some of these options (not just for Christmas).

Rib of beef would be wonderful - I got a gift certificate once for Swaledale Online Butchers and we got steaks and they were amazing so might be one you could check out.

When we have a small crowd for Christmas we have done capon or goose! But now I want to do a rib of beef.

We’ve always done a rib of beef for Christmas and lamb for New Year. We got ours from the Dorset Meat company last year - great meat and excellent service.

Thanks for this thread, I’m loving browsing all the options, even though I’ll not be cooking for Christmas.

I was also going to say Donald Russell.

OP,
Dart's Farm on the outskirts Exeter is amazing for meat, was awarded the best Farm Shop in the UK in 2025.
The butcher shop has such a choice.
You can either buy in store or you can order online.
I would highly recommend their beef, pork & turkey.
