Hi my son will be having his first birthday in a week or so and is having a party. What foods can i put out? I want to put out plenty of things he can eat but want to keep it to party type of food so other guests can eat it too. I'm stuck for ideas! Help!

crudities such as carrot sticks, celery etc

Love Elasticwoman's suggestions. Would add:
given the young age of your guests, consider talking through your proposed menu with each family to ensure that there is something there for everyone. If any of the parents say "My PFB woudln't touch any of that" then suggest they bring something to contribute that their little one would eat. Otherwise you could run yourself ragged trying to find something for everyone. Stock up on things you know most little ones like (yoghurt/banana/cheese etc).

For ds's 1st birthday we had scones and cream (diy), strawberries and his birthday cake (plain victoria sponge). Not many tinies at party, ds ate his first strawberry (not last) (birthday at beginning of April) and all adults enjoyed themselves!

I would bear in mind what time of day the party is going to e. If it is a meal time (e.g. lunch time) then sandwiches, cucumber sticks, mini pizzas etc but if it is in the middle of no time (i.e. 2-4) then just a few healthy snacks like organix things and fruit.

And a birthday cake of course

Probably best to cut cherry toms in half - a SALT told me that their size and texture of skin make them a bit of a choking hazard for little ones if they're left whole.

thank u. I was thinking dairylee sandwhiches, and a few other flavours for adults, little cocktail sausages, cubes of cheese, carrot and cucumber sticks, hummas, bread sticks, maybe jelly?,crisps, can babys have prawn crackers? I got some with my chinese last weekend and they dont look or taste salty but i dont know. Anymore suggestions more than welcome!!

Toddlers can choke on crisps and they are very very salty.

would avoid prawn crackers probably full of e numbers (you may not mind but somebody's mummy probably will). cocktail sausages may be chokable for some, depends how many teeth they've got and how good at chewing (my ds wouldnt manage them i dont think).
went to a first birthday bash a couple of weeks ago where the thing all the toddlers fell on was a big bowl of strawberries and blueberries - barely a baby alive doesnt like them and mums all felt virtuous about them eating fruit. tbh the catering will matter more to the adults than the babies - just lay on lots of booze and some cake!

My DD and her friends love quiche (as do the mummies )

Check out the posts on the BLW site for fab ideas of finger foods for LOs. Sticks of cheese are great too.

If you are making dairylea sandwiches grate soem carrot in them to make them even healthier. Also avocado and hommous work great in sarnies, along with carrot.

DD also loves boiled egg. If you want to get crisps get the Organix ones as they have no crap in them.

Fruit is great, mango, blueberries, strawbs, raspberries, apple slices, halved grapes.

If you are feeling domestic what about getting some puff pastry and making little cheese and tomato parcels (substitute with any filling really, cheese and spinach, veg etc.).
