Am really struggling with ds (2). He is allergic to dairy and intollerant to soya and egg. He's a good eater but obv very limited to what he can have. He's just going through that fussy phase and finding it very hard what to know to cook him each day.

We try to make sure we all eat the same. What do you give your dcs in an average week if their diet is anything like my ds?

He wont eat anything with a white/cheese type sauce.

I am on a dairy/egg free diet atm as ds2 is sensitive to it in my breastmilk.
so, everyone gets the joys of my basically vegan cooking (am also veggie you see)

erm, tonight we had:
cous cous with mixed veg, and spicy spinach and lentils, with some tofu (tho obv you can't use that cos of soya)

we often have pasta and a tomato based sauce. or spag bol made with chopped veg and lentils, or veg lasagne again with veg and lentils and sauce made using oat milk.

erm, what else? I do homemade pizzas on tortillas and just leave te cheese off mine.

stir fry

fajitas (ds1 who is 3 adores these, as he likes making his own up)

oh I do veg stews quite a lot, with dumplings.

the other day we had a moroccan chickpea and aubergine casserole from Rose Elliots fast, fresh and fabulous book

another rose elliot fave is the mushroom pate en croute.

in fact, the book has a lot of vegan recipes, or veggie ones that can easily be converted

you wouldn't want to give him anything with a white sauce if he's allergic to dairy though would you?

What about pasta with tomato, pizza with no cheese, shepherds pie with olive oil in the mash, fish and vegetables, beans on toast, jacket potatoes or wedges with tuna or ham (check the ham, some have whey in them), roast chicken, homemade burgers, homemade fishcakes, wraps, hoummous, um, can't think of anything else

Guadalupe · 25/06/2008 21:13

yes, cous-cous popular here and fajitas, mine love rolling them up too.

mad4mybaby · 25/06/2008 21:15

how old are all your dcs? Ive tried ds lately on stir fry using just soy sauce (bizarly he can tolerate that, dh says something to do with fermention) but he picks out the veg...! Oh and becuase of the egg thing he can only have rice noodles which he hates, also tried using thin pasta but wouldnt eat it. What suauce do you use?

Again with faitas he'd eat the tortilla and chicken but not the veg!

He loves the type of veg you'd have with roast, peas and greens but im pg and struggling to get the energy to cook and really not up for doing roast dinners!

he has goats milk in response to white sauce Q. What ingrediants do you put in cous cous?

mad4mybaby you can get those pre-cooked noodles in a packet now that have no milk or egg in.

not the amoy straight to wok ones, they have lactic acid in. but there is another make that sainsburys sell that are ok.

I buy a packet sauce to chuck in as well, whatever sounds nice and has no milk/egg in lol

if he'll eat peas and greens and stuff then just put that in fajitas!
or you could do stuff like sausages and mash and veg etc etc doesn't have to be a full on roast

Guadalupe · 25/06/2008 21:22

is he ok with goats milk then? Both mine reacted a bit to that still, smaller proteins but some children are still affected.

It is hard finding the energy to cook I know, especially when you are knackered. I had a major op seven weeks ago and have been really cutting corners with cooking.

DD is 6 and ds2 is 17 months. They both are bad with dairy, ds worse. Ds1 has always been fine.

I put herbs and chopped veg in cous cous, sometimes cucumber and tomato in the summer. I find roast chicken very easy as I just bung it in and have bread and salad with it.

thisisyesterday · 25/06/2008 21:23

sorry, cous cous I use whatever I have lying around.
usually onion, celery, mushrooms, red pepper, broccoli
tonight we had courgette in it too.
today I chopped it all up small and fried it, but i often steam the veg

chuck some veggie stock in the cous cous too, for extra flavour

Guadalupe · 25/06/2008 21:25

we have beans on toast a lot

and fishfingers with broccoli

soup from the freezer especially minestrone

pasta with a bit of veg in the sauce

tinned fish

all fairly quick meals

mad4mybaby · 25/06/2008 21:33

hmm thanks guys. Yes hes had goats milk since 4 months old. Ive just been thinking that he is actually very fussy! Wont eat salad except for cucumber, no peppers, no courgette... I let him have chips with something like fishfingers or scampi which he loves (yet hates fish pie!) once a week or so. He eats just about every fruit going though so always has fruit at lunch and tea, just the veg...

two year olds are fussy with their food, it's part of their nature!

Sounds like yours has a better diet than lots of children who are not restricted anyway.

If he likes soup then great, you can get loads of veg in that way but if not, fruit is very nutritious and he will probably eat more veg in time.

Our table has become this riduclous farce of clapping if ds2 eats any broccoli. Now he holds a piece up in the air triumphantly and waits for the applause, not actually eating it of course.
