What are easy quick things to cook when you have been suffering exhausting enjoying family days out? Can think of a few but the magic on MN will help too...

Just replaced the missing fuse in slow cooker...would it be really odd to take that on holiday (in car, not plane)

Take it, take it! Perfect solution so that you can be out all day having fun and then come back to a lovely meal, no fuss.

Chickens roast beautifully in slow cookers, which is good if the weather is hot as you can then have it cold with salad etc the next day.

There's a great book called 'Slow Cooker Easy', I've lent it to my friend otherwise I'd type a few recipes out for you, but if you can get that from your library or whatever I'd just pack that and your slow cooker and Bob's your uncle.

is really just stew though, not very holiday. what about barbecue? v easy to do a chicken or some chops, sausages... then just salads.

PeaGreene · 24/06/2008 22:20

See, I don't get barbecue as a quick meal. You need to wait 20+ mins for the thing to be ready, then when you're supposed to just leave ti to cook, you're actually turning it over and checking things are cooking evenly and properly. I find you're looking at 45 minutes of monitoring, at least, for a barbecue.

For straightforward quick, I'd stick with te things you'd do at home like pasta with sauce.

And if you're driving, yes, why not take the slow cooker.

We take cheats packets on holiday. Schwartz Spag Bol & Chilli con carne mixes, Sizzle n stir korma sauce, pilau rice seasoning etc etc

Pasta with sauce is deffo the way to go for a quick and easy meal

Pesto pasta with bacon and broccoli and sweetcorn or peas

Sausage and tomato pasta with cheesey topping

Chilli and rice (could cook chilli in slow cooker?) Maybe even Uncle Bens Rice pouches if you want really easy.

Depends where you are going but main meal out at lunchtime and really nice deli/nibble stuff, cheeses with wine for the evening; pizza for the children!

i like barbecue for that though, everyone can be involved with or at least aware of getting food and fire ready.

Omlettes

Prep the food the night before - like a fish pie and then put it in fridge and cook it when you get in.

make a big old stew and use soem of it as stew but lave some over and the next night chuck it in a pie dish and throw a puff pastry lid over it and have that with mash or chips

If taking slow cooker make a chilli and have it one night with tacos, lettuce, grated cheese, chopped toms and sour cream and the next night have the left over chilli with jacket potatoes

chicken fajitas

stir frys

I'd go with the slow cooker.

Chuck some chicken breasts in a couple of jars of sauce. Have with crusty bread and salad.

I agree, if I've been out all day with the kids the last thing I'd feel like is firing up the bbq, as well as all the prep required.

we do pasta & tom sauce with salad & bread

Pizza with salad : - )

Rissoto & salad (love salad on hols)

Frittata & salad

lentil shepherds pie

Then we tend to eat out on odd days
