No-bake sweet treats for school fair

I’m looking for ideas please for no-bake sweet treats (a quick melting on the hob is ok) that are suitable to donate for our school’s summer fair.

Must be nut-free, prefer no chocolate that will melt and get messy in this heat i.e rocky road.

We have our school summer fair this weekend and they are asking for donations of cakes and bakes as per usual, but given this week’s weather I have no inclination to be using the oven and hob if I can help it! I know I could just buy cakes but shop-bought never sells like homemade does.

Flapjacks? Using golden syrup or sugar which can be melted or combined on fairly low power in the microwave rather than on the stove top. Butter can also be quickly melted in the microwave.

Rice Krispies marshmallows treats. Add sprinkles for extra selling power.

Also marshmallow cones. Wafer ice cream cone, push a marshmallow in the top, dip in melted white chocolate and add sprinkles.

Or cornflake crispies, as above.

Marshmallow crispy square
INGREDIENTS
Makes: 24 squares
METRICU.S.
45 grams butter
300 grams mini marshmallows
180 grams rice krispies
edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)
METHOD
Melt the butter in a large, heavy-based saucepan over a low heat.
Add the marshmallows and cook gently until they are completely melted and blended, stirring constantly.
Take the pan off the heat and immediately add the cereal, mixing lightly until well coated.
Press the mixture into a greased 32cm x 23cm tin / 13 x 9 inch pan; you may have to put on vinyl CSI gloves and press it down into the corners, as it will be very sticky. Flatten the top and then scatter over the edible glitter or sprinkles, if so inclined.
Let the marshmallow crispy squares cool completely in the tin and then cut them into 24 squares.

Chocolate chips for baking might be ok stirred into any of the above, eg when the mixture is cooling down. They seem to have a higher melting point than ordinary chocolate.

Peppermint creams

Best stall at ours. Shop bought cakes. 4 large pre filled bags of different icing. Range of toppings. Person behind making “bespoke” cupcakes. Tasted OK but queues were as if they were made of gold.

@Piglet89 These sound delicious 😋 I think I would be tempted to replace some of the marshmallows with chocolate chips but I guess that would spoil the "15 of everything" theme!

BTW I was expecting it to make 15 not 12.

Don’t they still need to be baked though? Have I been doing wrong all these years?

empire biscuits?

FlorenceBlack · 24/06/2026 16:19

I’d just buy supermarket stuff and take it out of the packet, gently bash it for added authenticity, maybe dust a little icing sugar or something, then wrap it in baking paper or cello bags. I’m actually doing this for a friend’s charity tea because I’m hopeless at baking.

I was coming to say Fifteens but @Piglet89 has beaten me to it. Had a few (several!) today at school graduation - heavenly!!!!

Golden cornflake cakes or whatever they are called. They are the same as chocolate cornflakes but no chocolate. I think it I just butter, golden syrup, perhaps vanilla essence and cornflakes.

dizzydizzydizzy · 24/06/2026 16:27

I used to always make chocolate cornflake cakes and they went like hotcakes.
