Dairy free chocolate and butter

I’d like to make a cake with above ingredients, Sainsbury’s has galaxy dairy free chocolate, I’ve tried flora dairy free butter but how is it in cakes? For a little girl with dairy allergy.

use stork for baking, it’s dairy free and I personally feel it’s better than other butter substitutes for baking as the others have far too much water in them! I’ve not baked with galaxy dairy free we just use Nomo as it’s what we have in.

Flora original is dairy free, and the butter packs work very well in cakes. The spread works ok too, but is a bit sloppy if you’re making up icing. Haven’t used Galaxy DF chocolate, but regularly use a normal dark chocolate bar, cocoa powder or both.

I have a dairy allergy and would use Flora block butter and Sainsbury's basics range dark chocolate which is dairy free (and also much cheaper than Galaxy df). The Galaxy vegan chocolate’s not very nice and I can’t imagine it would be great in a cake.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain It has to be the Stork in packets, not tub Stork, which does contain dairy. I agree that Stork is brilliant for baking though and have often used foil wrapped Stork to make delicious cakes.

I'm sure there is a better chocolate for baking than Galaxy though. See if you can find Moo Free chocolate (Tesco) or NoMo (Waitrose).

I’m interested in this too. Unfortunately I hate Nomo, Galaxy and the other vegan chocolate. The only good one I have found is Booja Booja - but don’t even know if they produce chocolate bars or just truffles.

Theres also a Marks & Spencer dark chocolate with raspberry chocolate bar that’s delicious and doesn’t have milk in the ingredients- whether it’s absolutely free of milk traces, I don’t know.

You need a dairy-free margarine not a dairy-free spread.

Buy dairy-free cooking chocolate, unless you want chocolate drops or buttons for decorating.

Check the 'baking ingredients' and 'free-from' sections.

I hate chocolate cake but I like cooking with chocolate. Cooking chocolate has different melting properties.

I haven't knowingly cooked with dairy-free chocolate. Vegan chocolate will probably be more expensive than cheap chocolate, so I wouldn't buy expensive dairy-free chocolate without knowing it will be ok for cooking.

As per pp flora/stork anything like that will work. My gran, a traditional baker who did exceptional cakes and pastry always swore by it and would never use dairy butter for baking.

chocolate you’re best with cocoa powder. Most cakes I’ve made don’t use chocolate anyway, it’s always cocoa. Menier is a good one.

Galaxy dairy-free chocolate is unlikely to work well in a recipe-it's got palm oil and other oils and aditives to optimise it as an eating chocolate for people who want the taste of milk chocolate, but that will be out of balance for your cake. Use a cooking chocolate like https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-belgian-cooking-chocolate-dark-200g which is dairy free without any unusual additives (other supermarkets will have an equivalent, just check the label)

I get best results in cooking with a 50:50 mix of flora hard marg and Pure marg https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/pure-dairy-free-buttery-taste-500g

Does your recipe need dark or milk chocolate?

many dark chocolate bars are naturally dairy free. Just had a quick look at green and black and m&s and their 70% dark chocolate is dairy free.

milk chocolate is trickier, as pp say they tend to use oil instead of dairy. We have used “moo free choccy baking drops” before with good success.

Dark chocolate is often dairy free - and works well in cakes.

We do a lot of dairy free baking. Stork blocks are the best. Use about 5-10% less than for butter (eg 115g butter - we use about 105g stork).

Most good quality dark chocolate is dairy free. Its expensive but we find the Lindt 75% is best for baking ito flavour and texture.

Our dairy free chocolate chip cookies using the above are requested for all friends parties etc. They really are as good as regular.

This is absolutely lovely. I am a parent of dairy allergy child, and this is such a nice thing to do, please keep all packaging as the only way I can relax is if I can double check everything... Stork here for cakes, biscoff also dairy free and amazing for icing on cakes. X U7

OP most dark chocolate is dairy free and will bake far better than the galaxy and be a lot cheaper. Waitrose do an excellent own brand dark that comes in 180 g bars ideal for baking but all supermarkets will have their own.
I use Stork for baking too.
