Was born in 1950 everything home made, caught or shot, home grown veg
Fabulous Yorkshire puddings. Late f born 1928 , never so much had made a cup of tea. Sunday roast, Monday cold cuts, Tuesday the mincer and cottage pie.

Sounds like my kitchen now, home made, caught or shot

Dad - fish fingers. He actually does a very nice bacon sandwich but the first thing that comes to mind is the fish fingers he cooked the five or so times in my childhood my mum was too ill too cook.

Mum - necessary. She cooked a few nice things like this pork in milk casserole and I l remember goulash a few times when I wad very small. But she fed us then cooked something for dad when he got home. There was some sort of meat or processed meat, vegetables, potato or sometimes rice or pasta with butter. It was all very bland, I don't think she really enjoys cooking. She makes nice cakes.

Light delicious seasonal food. They grew everything they could and we ate things like homemade vegetable soup, cheese scones and baked eggs. My food never tastes as good as my mum's home made tomato soup.

I was born early 80s

Mum would do roasts, stews, homemade pies and baking. Lasagne all from scratch too.
We never ever had ready meals and I used to be jealous of people who had turkey drummers and alphabites for dinner haha. We had steak every Saturday with either baked potatoes or chips.
She used to make brilliant packed lunches and I even used to take little Greek salads in a little pot or a ploughman's lunch.

Dad can cook but it has to interest him. He cooked us curries and I remember him getting the bus to the other side of our city to buy ghee and specific spices to make said curries he didn't drive then. He also used to make the chilli a lot which I loved.

We ate so well when I think back and very seasonal.

My parents ran a deli in London in the 1970s - before it was a common thing. So we ate lots of stuff that was going out of code - cheeses, fancy hams, pate, coleslaw, olives. I remember being jealous of school friends who had things like baked beans, ketchup, white bread - never any of that in our house!

I mentioned my parents already. DHs parents were born in the 1920s. His mum was a terrible cook even though she went off to culinary college. His dad though was a brilliant cook. He was Italian and it was full on Italia food. Glorious. Right until the end of his life he would make us salmon and pasta and the most incredible roasted vegetables served in olive oil and with herbs. I’m sure this is why he stayed so independent and healthy until he was just shy of 100

Mum - cakes and amazing roasts.
Dad - everything burnt!

SliceofTosst · Today 17:37

Both pretty good.

Mum classic good food and dad more international.

When it was warm in summer I could often smell the bbq when I came home from school too. Steak, lamb chops. Extra good!

Mum wasn’t a great cook and rarely did it. Dad was amazing, really enjoyed food and cooking and did the best spaghetti bolognase I’ve ever had.

RaraRachael · Today 17:48

Dad made great chips but refused to eat anything remotely "foreign" - this was the 70s - so everything my mother made was dead plain to suit him.

csandsickofit · Today 17:51

Home made. I’m a 60s child who’s DM never worked so all food was homemade. Fortunately she was a good, if plain, cook. A super super treat was a Birdseye chicken pie!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 17:51

Typical 70s food. Got more adventurous with spaghetti bolognese and so on later.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · Today 17:52

Stepdad good with fish and meat. My actual dad wooed my mum with a roast chicken dinner when they first started dating.

Megsdaughter · Today 17:56

Mums cooking was wonderful. Everything from scratch. Homemade cakes and biscuits, even crackers. She died at 59 and Dad had to cook for himself then. Wasnt too bad. I did go in and teach him a few things but most of the time he used Mums handwritten recipe book.

Mum = Diet. Absolutely everything was weighed and calorie counted, lots of 'lovely healthy' salad served up with wholemeal bread. Everything wholemeal and sugar free. Pudding was a nice piece of fruit and a glass of water if you really need filling up after all that food. Explains why I've been morbidly obese my whole adult life. When I see iceberg lettuce I think of her dinners.
