Chicken goujons for school - how to pack/not dry?

Dimwit question but kids have asked for chicken wraps on a trip last minute. How can I keep it warm? And if not, should I pack it all separately? What are your tips? We dont even have lunch boxes and id like to avoid them carrying too much stuff.

Wrap in foil and hope for the best

I’d pack things separately in a Tupperware

I just make them up warm , and put in tin foil … my kids both said they are still warm at lunch. I put them with everything else and always fine x

If I send hot stuff I sometimes use a food flask or one of those tubs to keep things warm but they’d then have to carry it round. For school/club trips I tend to send a disposable lunch no tubs so just wrappers they can bin.

only thing you could do is cook the chicken and then make the wraps up as cold chicken wraps?

Like one of these - I have some rectangle shaped ones we use for picnics etc

I’m very lax with food standards but warm chicken on a trip seems risky even to me. I’d do cold chicken wraps.

Cold wraps, with lots of lettuce, sweet peppers, mayo etc in to stop it being too dry.

ConfusedHappy · 25/04/2026 09:01

Would you pack separately?

Wrap it in tin foil it should stop them drying out, you said you have no lunch bags id just pack it all together in a carrier bag

cold wraps surely?

My kids used to take chicken gouging wraps to school on a daily basis, we always did cold ones. Cooked in the morning then popped in the freezer on a pre cooled plate to cool quickly. Lettuce, mayo, cucumber to stop it being too dry and wrapped in foil. Cold block in the lunch bag to keep them cold. Keeping chicken warm is a real risk for food poisoning. Campylobacter grows best between 20 and 45 Celsius.
