I ate a Creamy Mushroom Tart 1 day past its used by day.
I cooked it in my gas oven for longer than the recommended time.
I did not realise until after I had eaten pretty much all of this that it was out of date as I didn’t think to check the box when putting it in the oven (I normally do this)

Will everything be ok or am I likely to get poorly?

I’d eat it and I’m on immunotherapy. Had it been kept refrigerated before you ate it?

I think it would be fine.

MassiveOvaryaction · 21/04/2026 19:38

If it smelt and tasted ok and wasn't obviously green and furry you'll be grand.

lc1999xx · 21/04/2026 19:39

I only bought this on Sunday. Yes it had been kept refrigerated the whole time until I cooked it about 45 minutes ago.

It didn’t taste any different and definitely didn’t look any different

One day! Are you kidding?

I ignore use by dates completely and just go by my nose and eyes - does it smell or look off. You can have something that's in date that's gone off, but more often, stuff that's beyond the date is fine for many days or even weeks afterwards.

(Actually the only time I look at use by dates is in the supermarket when I'm trying to find the longest dated packet but that's just to try and buy food that's as fresh as possible.)

BePoisedPlumUser · 24/04/2026 14:59

You’ll be fine. The tart didn’t know that it was a day out of date.

Peonies12 · 24/04/2026 15:08

Surely this a joke? You know use by dates are the biggest scam going? They underestimate by at least a week just to get people to waste and buy more food. I wish they'd get rid of them entirely and people use their eyes and nose.

Are you still alive @lc1999xx ?

I agree - I've even seen people on here saying things like "oh I cooked and ate some chicken/fish that smelled off but it was in date, will I be ok" - I mean, for crying out loud, if it smelled off it probably was off!

Ignore the date! Trust your nose!

food poisoning bacteria can’t be smelled or seen - that’s spoilage with the look n sniff test.
food producers only do shelf life testing up to the end of shelf life. After that point there’s no “safe limit “ although to be sensible a product with a 3 week shelf life, one day over will be less critical than a 4 day - especially if it has been stored and transported appropriately

Beeloux · 26/04/2026 20:02

I often do it 😅 I’m iffy if it’s meat and won’t give the dc out of date food but I eat it often. Never had any problems

NotThisShitAgain121 · 26/04/2026 20:40

1 day past will be fine as long as it was refrigerated.
