not sure where my majestic is - if we have one - and i really have NO idea when it comes to wine!

I'd echo Majestic - you can hire wine glasses too - they also do a drink or return type thing - iirc.

DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 17:30

thanks hifi - will get DH to check it out!

you could get cava..which is sparkling

SoMuchToBits · 19/06/2008 17:34

There's a Majestic in Ipswich, on Handford Road.

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 17:36

What is your budget?
Do you want red or white?

What are you eating?
Which supermarkets or wine shops do you have locally?

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 17:38

how about this?

CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 17:39

oh hang on
if you only want 6 bottles majestic no good, it is minimum 12 bottles

zippitippitoes · 19/06/2008 17:44

quite hard to choose wine for non wine drinkers

a lot of wine now is quite strong and if you aren't wine drinkers unlikely to be what you might like

prosecco maybe

havent had this but soinds nice

here

zippitippitoes · 19/06/2008 17:46

and the bottle looks nice lol

not too strong at 11

DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 17:52

6 bottles, dont want to spend a fortune as i wont be drinking it!

Got Morrisons, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys all close

And a majestic in ipswich so thats ok

just doing a buffet, so it is just for toasting the occasion!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 19/06/2008 17:53

yes yse but your idea of not spending a fortune and mine may be different
You need to be specific!
£10 a bottle?
£5 a bottle?

morningglory · 19/06/2008 17:53

Does it have to be wine? What about making sangria? Use less wine, and a good, tasty way of using cheap stuff. Can then get some bottles of nice stuff too.

DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 17:55

£5 a bottle region!!!

Im brassic as it is!

is 6 bottles enough? will be between 14 and 18 adults - 1 glass each

OP posts:
DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 17:56

see, i really am clueless!

OP posts:
BecauseImWorthIt · 19/06/2008 17:58

1 glass each!

Normal catering rules are half a bottle per person, so you would be nearer 10 bottles.

Sorry if that's not helpful! Why not do the Sangria idea, or a punch? Or Pimms, if it's a nice day? One bottle of Pimms is around £15 - you might just get away with one bottle, with lots of fruit/lemonade/ice in it, and then provide lager/beer for other guests?

DanJARMouse · 19/06/2008 18:00

yeah, 1 glass each! Its only for a toast!

I say that because most of the guests will be driving so wont be drinking a lot.

OP posts:
BecauseImWorthIt · 19/06/2008 18:04

Sorry DJM - I know you're brassic so you won't want to hear this - but only one glass does seem a bit mean. Not everyone will be driving. Might be better not to have alcohol at all.

suey2 · 19/06/2008 18:16

er.. 6 bottles and 18 adults is 2 glasses each- if you use flutes.
I would second cava.
Or have bellinis- prsecco and peach juice - if it is forecast to be nice

lilolilmanchester · 19/06/2008 18:17

given that you are trying to cut costs, what about buying some ready-made Bucks Fizz? It's only about 4% alcohol so drivers could have it too, and it's cheap so you could buy more.

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 19/06/2008 19:31

When catering, you allow 4 glasses from each bottle, and that's normal wine glass measures, so i would say 6 bottles is fine. Just hit your usual supermarket and get whats on offer. If it's only a toast, doubt people will be fussed by it. If your worrying still about it, grap a shop assistant in the wine aisle and ask their advice. Most supermarkets have trained wine tasters working those aisles.

If still in doubt and thinking money try looking on line at the offers ie

And drivers prob will still have some, just a dash though, only polite to do so if toasting a new baby.

Goober · 19/06/2008 19:34

THE RULEBREAKER.
Comes in both red and white.
Costs around £6 per bottle.
The only place I've ever found it is Tesco.
It tastes very special.
