This is a social, sit round the table, hot lunch for 5 adults. I'd like something I can create without stress that will be tasty and pescatarian. Ideas please

Various hot quiches/savoury tarts, buttery herby new potatoes and lots of salad things (including pasta salad; bean salad etc) from supermarket to save faff.

I’m pescatarian and I’d be happy with vegetarian food as I don’t eat fish on a daily basis. Just mentioning, as sometimes people interpret pescatarian as fish must be served!

Gardenquestion22 · 07/04/2026 06:28

I’d buy a side of salmon, cook in foil with lemon etc and serve with new potatoes and buttered veg or a salad.

This is tasty and simple to make:

I love a really good hot salad nicoise and the weather at the moment is just right for that.

Make a nice salad base with lettuce, tomato etc and serve it out between the plates. Top with fresh, pan fried tuna steak; new potatoes tossed in lemon and butter and steamed green beans.

What's with all the fish suggestions? You don't NEED fish for this meal. Just do vegetarian.

PensionedCruiser · 07/04/2026 14:21

Kedgeree or a fish paella.

Shakshuka with flatbreads, make the base for the shakshuka and flatbreads in advance (or buy the flatbreads ready made) then just add the eggs when guest arrive.

To be fair, the OP did ask for pescatarian lunch ideas...

I've often recommended this. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/jun/09/meera-sodha-recipe-tomato-pistachio-saffron-tart-vegan

Fairly easy, looks lovely, tastes great. No meat, fish or eggs in it. Depending on which puff pastry you buy/make, could be dairy-free too. You can do most of the work in advance. Serve with something green to contrast with the beautiful colours of the tomatoes.

Meera Sodha’s recipe for vegan tomato, pistachio and saffron tart

The new vegan This simple supper can be thrown together in minutes, but it still packs a real punch

I’m pescatarian and at this time of year I’d most welcome a tray of fish baked (very simply) in foil, alongside a few seasonal salads - one green, one bean / lentil, one tomato-y. Plus rice / new potatoes and most importantly, really excellent bread. I guess there won’t be much wine if it’s lunch? Unless it’s a celebration?

I really don’t care for effortful food in peoples homes - that’s what restaurants are for.

mindutopia · 07/04/2026 20:02

I would go vegetarian. It’s much easier for a dinner party and even pescatarians don’t want to eat fish every day.

Big colourful salad, side of salmon baked with lemon, mini potatoes and garlic focaccia with tzatziki

Ineffable23 · 07/04/2026 20:15

I had a super easy fish dish the other day:

Salmon 1x fillet per person.
Gnocchi - portion per person.
Spinach - lots

Put that lot in a couple of big flat oven dishes.

Then make a sauce out of lemon zest, white wine, black pepper, creme fraîche, milk, chives. I reckon wild garlic would also be delicious if you have a source of it.

Pour the sauce over the stuff. Bake in the oven 'til the salmon is done - 15-20 minutes.
